Here is a person you can contact (email is in the link). He is almost certainly the descendant of your Johannes Pitzner:

http://www.danishbakery.com/

Danish Bakery in Burien, Washington.
Burien is in King County, Washington - Seattle area.

History of this company: "Baking is a tradition in the Pitzner family. The first bakery bearing the Pitzner name was opened on October 25, 1866 in Copenhagen, Denmark by Johannes Pitzner, Sr. who later became a member of the Danish Parliament.  The current owner of the Danish Bakery in Burien is part of a history of five generations of bakers in the Pitzner family. The Danish Bakery in Burien was opened in the old part of Burien in about 1930 by a Danish baker.  Johannes Pitzner purchased the Burien Danish Bakery in 1967. Mark Pitzner continued the family tradition in 1977."

You can see the current owner took over in 1977, after the death of Johannes in 1976.

Since the Danish family history is still honored and remembered here, there is a good chance you will find the answer to your question with them.

It appears the bakery has been sold, as the owners retired:

The previous owner can be reached on Facebook.

Found online, from Mark W: "A little history [of the Danish Bakery in Burien]...My grandfather, Oskar Christensen, started the Danish Bakery in 1930 and ran it as a bakery and deli. He and my Grandmother came over from Denmark in the early 1920′s. They sold it in 1944 to Willy Andersen, another Dane. Mr. Andersen sold it to the Pitzners in 1967. So, it does have a long and proud history in Burien. Hopefully the tradition can continue with new owners...."

Hello Jane
Thank you for all your effort. It is interesting to see that Johannes has taken up the baker tradition of his family. Your name is very danish. Are you a dane and are you situated in Burien?

Unfortunately we don't dare to use Facebook. Are there any chance that you could contact Mark Pitzner and ask for his mail-address?

I have tried to use the web-address as you specied below but am getting a the message that the page does not exist:

Hello, You are welcome. I am glad to help and I'm sure the same for Homer.

About Facebook: Yes. But I will ask one of my children or someone else to do that for us.

Should your relative contact you here? Or do you wish to give me your email address so that you two can talk offline? I can try to email you privately using this website - but last time I tried to do that for someone, I got only error messages and my private email would not go through. So maybe YOU can email ME, or post your email here. (if you do, use "snable a" instead of "@".)

To read the story (8 September 2011) about the bakery being sold, "Google" search for this:

“Longtime Burien Business Danish Bakery Sold, New Owners.”

A word of caution: Sometimes people are happy to hear about family in Denmark, but not always. At times a family history must be shared with sensitivity and only as much as each person would like to know.

Yes I am of Danish heritage. I'm American, but I do not live in the Burien area.

Med venlig hilsen!
