I am completely new to Danish Family History and I am struggling to find my way around the archives.  I have been given some excellent help and advice already by this forum which has got me off to a flying start with lots of information (thank you everyone who responded to my Sorensen in Copenhagen post), but as a result of that I have another question!

I am now looking for the marriage of Vilhelm Rudolf Sørensen to Kristine Marie Andersen sometime between 1884 and 1890, maybe in Copenhagen.  Vilhelm had already married Ellen Kirstine Pedersen in Sorbymagle, Soro in 1883.  Vilhelm is a schoolmaster (laerer/skolemester).  Vilhelm and Ellen had a child, also in Sorbymagle, Soro in 1884, but the next time I know about Vilhelm Rudolf Sørensen is when he pops up in Copenhagen having another son, Carl Vilhelm Sørensen on 7th February 1890.  The birth/baptism is registered in the Holy Cross church register (Hellligkors 1889-1891 Opslag 22).  This time the mother is Kristine Marie Andersen.

So it seems as if Vilhelm's first wife died and he married again. There is some additional information in Carl Vilhelm's birth entry about addresses I think, but I cannot read fully what is written.

I tried to look to see if Vilhelm and Kristine married also in Helligkors between 1884 - 1890 but the marriage registers at arkivalieronline.dk do not start until 1890.  I do not know whether that is because the church didn't exist before then, or that registers are only available from this time.

As well as trying to find these specific entries i.e. the marriage entry for Vihlem and Kristine and the death of his first wife Ellen, are there any tips for finding church register entries are or do I  have to look image by image through each church (which is probably quite a big task for somewhere like Copenhagen)?

Many thanks

There are some short cuts when you search in Copenhagen 1890-1923, i.e. the registration of the adult population made by the police.
In these Politiets registerblade I find Vilhelm Rudolf Sørensen at
http://www.politietsregisterblade.dk/index.php?option=com_sfup&controller=politregisterblade&task=viewRegisterblad&id=1877291&searchname=polit_simple
former teacher
registered 1.5.1892 at this adress: Aagade 34 1st floor
wife:
Kirstine Marie (Sørensen)
born in Høiby 6.2.1861
son:
Frederik Gunnar
born 13.1.1884

If you are lucky you may find the family in the census 1890 and 1901 at the same adress - here you would also see the birth place of Frederik Gunnar.
And if you are even more lucky you might find their marriage in Højby, probably the Højby in Holbæk county

You can find the census (original) at www.arkivalieronline.dk - chose København, find the street in the drop down menu and find the street number.

Sadly Inger I did not find the marriage in Højby (I just searched as you suggested).  So it looks like I will need to tackle the Copenhagen registers.

When searching in the Politiets registerblade I found two other Sørensen children born in Højby that I wonder if are connected as one is in teacher training (if I have translated correctly), and they are born around the right time to be more children to Vilhelm Rudolf Sørensen and his 2nd wife Kirstine Marie: Dagmar Lykke Sørensen born 1/2/1891 Højby ; and Agnes Kamilla Lykke Sørensen born 26/2/1893 Højby.  But I could not find either of these in the Højby church registers either.

But I realise that Sørensen is a common name and they may not be connected.  But I thought it worth a look.  At least the records are starting to make a bit more sense to me now!

Any other suggestions much appreciated.

...

There are 6 places in Denmark called Højby.
You can search for Danish place names at http://www.krabsen.dk/stednavnebase/

Agnes Kamilla Lykke Sørensen was born in Højby parish, Åsum district, Odense county:
1892-1914, Højby, Åsum, Odense, opslag 33

Many thanks Helmer.  The information about Højby is very useful - at least I know there are other places to look.

Also a big thank you for the census transcription for the Sørensen family showing the parents of the Dagmar and Agnes.  I was hoping their parents may have been Vilhelm Rudolf Sørensen and his 2nd wife Kirstine Marie, as he was a teacher and she came from Højby (but not clear which of the 6 Højby at the moment), but this doesn't look to be the case.  But very useful to establish it early on - much appreciated.
