Looking for the immigration to the USA of
Johan Jensen, b. 18 jan 1902 in Hinnerup, Denmark.

He came to the USA ca. 1927 on "Red Star Line".

We believe we now have his family records from Denmark
thanks to help from Ane Efterlysning in this forum.

Kind regards,

Hi Seidi, maybe you can say a little more to help those who do not read Danish (as the other thread is in Danish).

This may not be necessary - someone may find him anyway. But John Jensen is a common name and so additional identifiers might help in distinguishing him from the crowd.  Wink

My quick search of ddd.dda.dk emigration database and Ellis Island did not find him, so helpers will turn to Ancestry.com to help you.

I admit I am curious why you currently know he immigrated to USA on the Red Star Line in 1927, yet you ask for help finding his immigration?

Typically useful identifiers:

The full place name where he is from -

Last known residence before 1927 immigration -

Parents and siblings names, who may have also immigrated, thus could be clues in identifying him in USA - or they may be named on a ship's manifest as persons to whom he is traveling or with whom he had last contact in Denmark

Possible destination in USA

Hi Seidi,

"Johnan" Jensen 25 left Southampton 17 Sep 1927 and arrived N.Y. 26 Sep on the S. S. Arabic.

He is listed as a masseur and his destination was the Washington Sanitarium Hospital, Takoma Park D. C.

He listed birthplace as Svenborg (Svendborg I assume) and nearest relative as father K. Jensen in Hinnerup, Denmark.

Hi Homer

I had hoped you would come through, and you did not disappoint me... Wink
Thanks so much for your help again and again!!!

To Jane
Thank you for your interest. To answer your questions:
His name was Johan (not John), so not a common name.
The family here "knew" he came over in 1927 on a Red Star Line ship.
No one knew his whereabouts in Denmark.
Even after the information we gained in the Danish forum and finding him in the 1916 Census, we had no idea about where he was between 1916 and 1927.

Thanks so much and have a great day.

Seidi Albertsen and Kathy and family too

Technically, Johan got the location wrong, as Takoma Park is in Maryland, on the D.C. border.  Smiley

Homer, I didn't catch that, but should have. We used to live in that area many years ago.

Everything fits with the Danish records, we have found except for "Svenborg".
Found his birth in the church book. He was born in Skjød, Houlbjerg Herred, Viborg County.

Maybe "Svenborg" was the last place he stayed/worked in Denmark.

Yes he wasn't born in Hinnerup (isn't Hinnerup in Torum, Nørre, Viborg), as you had at first stated. I just thought that post needed a little "tune-up."

But anyway the ship's manifest nonetheless contained the word Hinnerup. Nice!
