Hello! I'm trying to track down one of my ancestors from København and am not quite up to reading every bit of the church book records.

I can't find his birth record or any census data and am hoping that someone can help me squeeze a bit more info out of the church books.

Christopher Martin Møller/Müller (which is the preferred spelling?) b. abt 1780, d. 9 Feb 1829 in København.

Here are the books he is mentioned in that I've found:

Vor Frelser Konfirmerede 1814 - 1829 (his daughters' records)

op. 190: Oct 1820, Andrea Caroline Müller (3rd entry from bottom)
There is an address after Andrea's name and something after Christopher's name.

op. 254: Oct 1827, Anne Christine Müller (#9)
There is something, maybe an occupation before Christopher's name and his wife Sophie's name. Also, an address that has the number 289.

Vor Frelser Fødte 1813 - 1827 (his granddaughter's birth)

op. 401: 20 Dec 1826, Martine Sophie Henningsen (#7)
There are several Müller's mentioned, though I don't know if Christopher is one of them. The same address, with 288 and 289 is listed. I'd like to know the first names, occupations and addresses.

Vor Frelser Viede 1813 - 1835 (his daughter's marriage)

op. 110: 1826, Andrea Caroline Müller and Paul Simon Henningsen (3rd from bottom)
Christopher's occupation and address are given, with again the address ending in 288 and 289.

Vor Frelser Døde 1813 - 1833 (deaths of Christopher and his wife)

op. 140: 9 Feb 1829, Christopher Martin Müller (7 down)
Occupation and address (something 288/289) are given. Cause of death?

op. 331: 8 Feb 1829, Sophie Frederikka Wildman (2nd from bottom)
Occupation for Christopher and that same 288/289 address. Cause of death?

I can't find birth records in Vor Frelser for Christipher or his daughters, and can't find him in the 1787 or 1801 census, so perhaps he moved from a different area. His wife, Sophie's birth is in the Vor Frelser book.

Unfortunately the life-spans of himself and his wife overlap quite a bit with the big census gap! In trying to read the occupations and addresses, It looks to me like he may have been a factory worker (something with fabrik?) and that the 288/289 address is something like Prindsengadn. But I'm really not sure. I'm also curious what Christopher and Sophie died from as they died within a day of each other (terrible disease? broken heart?)

If anyone can help me out with the addresses and occupations and any other information, I would very much appreciate it. I'd certainly love to find if there is any clue about where he was born, so I can go back another generation on his side.

Thank you in advance for any help offered!

Putting two and two together.

Andrea Caroline was baptized in the 'German reformed' congregation in Copenhagen, born  September 18, 1806 and baptized the 20th per her confirmation.  For some reason, the microfilmed records are available, but not posted by AO.  Family Search says without giving a parish that the couple were married July 8, 1803, thus presumably in the same congregation.

Christopher was associated (employed?) with a clothing factory, and in 1820 lived at Prinsensgade ('Prindsens-') 209.

Over time the German Müller would have been naturalized as Møller.  Likewise Wildmann migrates to Vildman.

(Transcribed) Anne Christine Müller, hjemme
Fadren Fabriqueur Christopher Martin Müller. Modren Sophie Frederikka, født Wilman, Prindsensgade 289, anden Sal til Gaden
født 7de December 1812, døbt 27de do i tydsk reformeret Kirke
(vacc) efter Attest af 9 Sept 1818 af Fraerkiel Stadchierurgus

A. C. M., at home, with her father manufacturer C. M. M. and mother S. F. née W., Prinsensgade 289, third floor (as ground floor usually doesn't count as 'sal'), in front.  Born December 7, 1812, bapt. the 27th.  Vaccination September 9, 1818.

As 288 seems later to have been annexed to 289, my guess is that 289 was also his clothing factory.

In the death record I read the remark as 'Øster Urtegaard', i.e. the burial section.

Ralph,

Thank you for the help and information! I always have trouble with familysearch, but knowing that you found records there, I tried again and found several more children of C.M.M. and S.F.W. All christened in Den Tysk, the reformed church. I had never even heard of that church before, but found some interesting information about it online. I guess C.M.M.'s family came from Germany.

I wish AO had the reformed church records. But I do live near a Family History Center, so maybe they can get the microfilms from the familysearch data.

Thanks for the transcription on the confirmation record -- quite a lot of data for one record! I'm sure I remember seeing a census record for another family member who worked for a clothing manufacturer. Now I need to find that again and see if it's related to the same factory on Prinsensgade.

Again, thanks so much!

Ralph,

Since you found the date of the marriage between CMM and SFW, I decided to check Vor Frelser (her christening church), and they were there!

Vor Frelser 1793 - 1813 Viede book op 14
8 Jul 1803
25. Christopher Martin Møller – Ungkarl – Coj??? og Sophia Friderica Wilman – Piga...cop i Kirken

I am wondering what the occupation is once again. It doesn't look like anything about "fabrik."

Thank you!

In 1803 'Møller' is a Tøjmester. He doesn't own or manage a factory yet.

Capital T was made that way in Danish longhand of the 18th century.  In personal names it should be a form more familiar, favoring an italic hand.  Same story for a number of letters.

Ralph,

What is a Tøjmester? I looked it up and it seems to be some kind of position in an armory, but I'm not quite sure.

The street name helped immensely. I found this page (http://www.kobenhavnshistorie.dk/bog/matrikel/christianshavn.html) which gives the history of the Matrikel numbers:

Matrikel
1689 139 (del af)
1756 286
1806 289
1959 Henlagt til 1806 288
Ejere
1689 Niels Larsen, kontrollør
1756 Paul Nyegaard, vintapper
1806 Christoffer Martin Møller, fabrikant
Matrikulære husnumre
1689 Dronningensgade 139, Prinsensgade 139*
1756 Prinsensgade 286
1806 Prinsensgade 289
Husnumre
1859 Prinsessegade 13

So, there he is in 1806, with the clothing factory. Plus an interesting history of the building.

Thanks!
