Hi

I Have found an Article in Danish Newspaper mentioning an Lady who turns 104 Years old.

Her name is Marie Carstensen, widow after Farmer Anders Carstensen. She is Living Sct. Edward.
This article is fron 1953 - and tells taht she 21th of January turns 104 Years.

She and her husbond is from Bakkebolle, Vordingborg Parish, Praesto County. My Guess is that her father is Jens Hansen and her mother is Kirsten Bentsen.

Its is mentoined to me that she dies 1956 - and i would like to know where and when they married - if they got children - and where Anders Carsten is born.

She was abt. 20 Years old when she emigrated - but I can't find her anywhere.
Hope I will get a little help.

Anders Carstensen was naturalized 1879 in Wisconsin (attached).   It states he was born 1845 and entered USA 1869 at Portland (probably Portland Maine, a seaport).

Birth record is Fanefjord 1839-1853 opslag 26 #2

Here is the family in 1850:

Here is a sad item that explains his early death:

The Columbus Gazette, April 18, 1882
CARSTENSEN--Michael Welsh informs that a Mr. Carstensen, a Dane, living at Creston, tried to make short work with his life last Friday, by thrusting a butcher knife into his side. The knife struck a rib which turned the point downward, or the blow would have killed him at once. The wound may yet prove mortal. He is pronounced insane by his physician, having shown signs of a wandering mind for several days.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Records of Potters Field Cemetery, Platte County, Nebraska list death of Andrew Carstenson  29 Oct 1886 at age 41 in a hospital.

In the 1930 Platte County, Nebraska census,  Mary Carstenson was living with her married daughter Laura's family, and listed immigration year as 1869, so she possibly came on the same ship as Anders.

Here is the Hasselbalch family, but it does not list Anna Christina's birth name:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ancientage&id=I003467

She may have been related to Marie (Jensen) Carstensen, but I don't find an Anna born 15 Feb 1862/63 in Vordingborg.  (The 1900 census lists birth as Feb 1863, probably an error)

Niels Christian Hasselbach was born 29 Aug 1858 in Odense (Bogense 1858-1869 opslag 2 #17)
Location:  Texas USA
Areas of interest:  Tønder county,  Brede, Daler, and Visby parishes

The baptismal record for Anders Carstensen is Præstø, Mønbo, Fanefjord 1839-1853, opslag 26 #2 of 1845.  He was born January 26 and baptized March 24.

His father, however, doesn't seem to be baptized in Fanefjord as the 1850 census suggests.  Family search notes two marriages for Carsten Hemmingsen in Fanefjord with the same birth date as the census, 1809.  The second marriage, to Karen Maria Hemmingsdatter, is April 27, 1836.

Here's a mention in a book -
Past and Present of Platte County, Nebraska: A Record of Settlement, Organization, Progress and Achievement, G. W. Phillips, supervising editor (Chicago: S. J. Clarke) 1915, volume II [available online]

Lawrence P. Carstenson, D.V.S. [= (veterinarian]
Dr. Lawrence P. Carstenson, engaged in the practice of veterinary surgery, his home being on section 23, Columbus township [in Platte County, Nebraska], was born near Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on the 2d of January, 1880, a son of Anders and Marie Carstenson, both of whom were natives of Denmark. After coming to the new world and residing for a time in Wisconsin they removed to Nebraska, and the mother is still living in Genoa, although the father passed away in 1885. It was in the fall of 1880 that the family home was established in the northern part of Platte county, and while spending his youthful days under the parental roof Lawrence P. Carstenson pursued his education in the district schools and also worked upon the home farm. He supplemented his early educational advantages by a course in the Fremont Business College and then, determining upon the practice of veterinary surgery as a life work, he entered the Kansas City Veterinary College, from which he was graduated with the class of 1907. He afterward located for practice in Fremont, where he remained for six months and then went to Columbus where he remained until 1913, in which year he took up his abode on section 23, Columbus township, just west of the city of Columbus, where he is well equipped to take care of a large veterinary practice. His ability has won him wide recognition and his business is steadily growing. On the 17th of June, 1908, Dr. Carstenson was united in marriage to Miss Grace Freligh, by whom he has the following children, namely: Loraine, Irwin and Nadene. Dr. Carstenson was less than a year old when brought to Platte county, so that he has been practically a lifelong resident here, and that his record has ever been a creditable and honorable one is indicated in the fact that many of his staunchest friends are those who have known him from his boyhood days to the present. In his professional career he is working his way steadily upward, discharging his duties with conscientious fidelity, while his increasing success is indicative of the growing confidence of the public in his skill.

-----------------------------------------
Another obituary - for Harold died (son of John and Maggie):
Harold G. Carstenson born 30 January 1913 last residence Monroe, Platte, Nebraska, died 28 June 2002 age 89. A second notice: CARSTENSON, Harold Glen, 89: born January 30, 1913, near Genoa [in Nance County, Nebraska]; son of John Carstenson-Maggie Jansen; married Jean Pearson, January 1, 1942; son Glen; daughter Donna Matson; died June 28, 2002, in Genoa; burial Valley View Cemetery, Genoa.
