My hard drive crashed last week  :-\  My data was all backed up, but unfortunately my bookmarks were not.  I lost close to 50 genealogy bookmarks for my US, German and Danish research.  I'm thinking it would be a great idea for us to complete one topic full of helpful links which we can "sticky" at the top of this forum.  Could everyone please help me rebuild my bookmark list?

Here is what I know:

http://www.ddd.dda.dk/   -A helpful tool that lets you search (some) churchbooks and census records

http://www.emiarch.dk/search.php3?l=da   -A website to search immigration records

Please help by posting any helpful links you have, which can help future researchers!  I know there was an excellent one that would let you search for headstones in cemeteries...

Hi Erik,

The website for finding pictures of tombstones is probably findagrave.com.

Thank you for the help.  See there are many new links here I did not know about before.  Could we make this a "sticky" at the top of the forum?  I think it might help new users and old ones too.

Paul,
It was not findagrave.com  It was a danish site and unfortunately all I remember in the URL was "kirke" which I know does not help.

I believe it had photos of some churches but I would use the search function on the right hand side to choose the parish and then you could view the plots in the cemetery for that church.  I found photos of quite a few of my ancestors that way.  It was not comprehensive for all parishes, but I found my anestors from Hjarup, Vejle, Denmark tombstone (they died between 1858 and the 1880s).  It was someone on here who gave me that link last year...

I just found these.  Not the ones I remember, but they might be of help to someone:

http://www.findengrav.dk/

http://www.dk-gravsten.dk

It was certainly something similar to these, but I found it much easier to use.

Are there any online tools to view probate records?

I see from this link, the parish records didn't really start until 1645.  Is there any way to go back prior to that, or is that a definite wall where our research stops?

For probate records, I have used www.brejl.dk (although right now when I am posting this, it is not accessible)

Ole Westermann found this for me:

Transcriptions of Them, Vrads, Skanderborg churchbooks from 1686-1814 (in two Excel files).  Really nice because you can search on all the different fields.  Births, marriage, and burials on different tabs at the bottom.  You can sort/search by name makes it easy to use and tells you which opslag to look if you want the image.
