This transcription lists both parents as widows:
Thisted, Hassing, Snedsted, Elsted By, , et Huus, 86, FT-1840
Name: Age: Marital status: Occupation in household: Occupation: Birth place:
Peder Clemensen 36 Enkemand Smed
Christiane Larsdatter 35 Enke Huusholderske
Cleme Pedersen 8 Ugift deres Børn
Ingeborg Pedersen 7 Ugift deres Børn
Niels Pedersen 2 Ugift deres Børn
I thought it must be a copying error but the original appears to read the same (Snedsted opslag 12)
Their last child was born December 1840 and in 1845, the father is gone and mother again listed as a widow.
Does the strange 1840 entry imply the father had died before the census?
(I don't find Peder Clemensen's death recorded in Snedsted)
as Peder Clemensen 36 Enkemand Smed
is the father of the mentioned children - at least Niels according to the churchbook 1838/opslag 16 - it must be a mistake, made by the person writing the census.
Inger
Hi Homer,
In 1834 they are married:
Thisted, Hassing, Snedsted, Elsted by, et Huus, 87, FT-1834, B3972
Navn: Alder: Civilstand: Stilling i husstanden: Erhverv: Fødested:
Peder Clemmensen 30 Gift Smed
Christiane Larsdatter 29 Gift hans kone
Clemmen Pedersen 2 Ugift deres barn
Ingerborg Pedersen 1 Ugift deres barn
Peder Thomsen 26 Gift Inderste, Muurmester
Ane Nielsdatter 26 Gift hans kone
Niels Christian Pedersen 1 Ugift deres søn
The got married in 1929 (Snedsted 1814-1835 opslag 163).
So I agree with Inger: mistake made by the person writing the census.
Mette
Thanks Inger and Mette. It just seems such an unlikely mistake when listing a man and wife with their children!
