Hello Forum, I ask for help in understanding of excerpts from files.

There are supposed excerpts from "Landlists" of the Caribbean island St. Thomas, where children of my ancestor lived as plantation owners and officials of Brandenburg African-American Company.

Maybe it is rents or duties, perhaps for slaves.

An example I have attached below.
An exact transcription is not necessary summary is sufficient.

Thanks and regards from Germany

The meaning is that he has bought some ground lying up to Thomas Bourdieu and from the same auktion - I think -- he has got 2 houseslaves and some "landslaves, but they are dead, and its noted or written down that they are, and that madame Bourdieu
doesn't owe him more.

Nochmahl:

Also about the dead of the slaves, I think it stand "forleden år",  das ist : vorigen Jahr

in english. those slaves mrs. Bourdieu has noted/writen down are all lost.

I think it means those slaves she has given him in a letter maybe , maybe as a gift, but one year after the gift they are dead. Also that the notes about the slaves is one year after he bought the land.

Hallo Grethe,

vielen Dank, das hat mir sehr geholfen.

Thomas BOURDEAUX, der die Plantage am 17. Mar 1735 ersteigert hat, ist angeblich am 2. Jul 1735 gestorben.

First the transcription (in a few lines):

And then my attempt for translation:

Thomas Bourdeaux bought at a public auction March 17, 1735 a sugar plantation, from Thomas Magens,
previously owned by Pedro von Bellens, lying next to Thomas Bordeaux' and Kierving's plantations (see page 9), and
running north-west in the length (3000 feet) and south-north in the breadth (1500 feet).

After her son-in-law Mons. Jean Mallevilles explanation he has received from Madame Bourdeaux 2 capable
female house negroes, and some Maqueron slaves shall last year have died, and so have also young negroes
who when bought were considered 'complete' , but showed up to be only 'half' (as I understand it)

Best wishes
Ole
