Hi,

I'm looking for ancestors to two Danish men who emigrated from Denmark to the USA in probably the end of the 19th century. They are both said to have settled in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The only information I've got is the following:

Peter L Jensen (born 1850 in Denmark)

Peter Christensen (born in 1866-05-15 in Denmark).

I'm not familiar to how to do genealogy in Denmark so every little help would be highly appreciated!

Best regards,

Linda

Peter Christensen is not an uncommon name combination.

Thank you all for your help!

I knew that both names are common in Denmark but I was hoping for a lucky shot since I had an exact birth date for one of them! You gave me some good suggestions that I'll look into but I also realise that I have to go back and try to get more information. I've just got the names from an american relative and he had found them somewhere on the internet. I'll ask him again.

Best regards,

Linda

Emma Christenson must be identical with the Swedish girl Emma Carolina Ramén b. 23.04 1878 i Kjula.

She left Sweden in 1882 with her mother Carolina Johnsdotter b. 15.09 1844 in Karlskoga and 4 sisters.

Father Frans Oskar Ramén b. 13.01 1849 in Östra Snavlunda was a soldier,  had escaped from Sweden earlier but in 1883 he got permission to leave the country. At his departure it is said he was going to Wisconsin.

From the Kjula church book and the Swedish emigration database.

Since Peter Christensen was born in 1866 and he is listed as a German and his parents as Danish in the 1900 Census, it could indicate that he was born Sønderjylland ( the occupied part of Denmark from 1864 to 1920 )

Hi,

now I've had time to do some more research and it seems like your suggestions were correct.

Peter L Jensen (born i Vejle 1858-09-09) emmigrated in 1886 to Escanaba, Michigan were he married Dorothy Marie Moe Christensen (born 1872 in Schleswig-Holstein). One of their sons (Harold, born 1900) married Edna Christensen (born 1900 in Escanaba, Michigan). Her parents were Peter Christensen (born 1866 or 1868 in Denmark) and his wife, Emma Carolina Ramén (born 1878 in Kjula, Sweden).

So there is the connection between the two men I was searching for. I've not managed to find were in Denmark Peter Christensen should have been born but he might be the same as arrived in New York in 1886 from Hamburg, said to be Preussian. This suggest that he might have been from the occupied Sydslesvig, as you mentioned.

Do you reckon it would be possible to continue the research in Denmark (or in Germany?) with this informaton or is it still to sparse?

Thanks again!

/Linda

It seems all Peter Christensens siblings stayed in Denmark (or Germany as it was from 1864 to 1920) - and most got married an got quite a few children.
There is a familytree on the nets showing all the siblings and their children.

Try to contact the administrator - she is living in Holm in Nordborg, the village Peter Christensen came from.
