Karl Johan Smidt, who previously - in 1893 - had tried to get an Accidenstrykkeri to be profitable (the one now belonging to Poul Søndergaard) created in 1904 the factory Avant in Ny Vestergade which operates as a paper bag factory and printing house. Furthermore it has a vulkaniseringsanstalt (vulcanizeing shop)(Kautschukstempel fabrik) (Making rubber stamps). Additional some digeltrykpresser (Platen press print)  and hurtigpresse (a cylindric press)
Note: Apparently the Avant was a house of much speciallity compared to the printing factory of 1893. Paper bags, with or without print. Making rubber stamps and finally one of the first cylindrical press machines to print newspapers etc.

Mange tak Herluf og Inge.  I did see my grandfather's registration with the police.  I think he must have been quite the entrepreneur.  In 1917-18 he even manufactured an automobile.
