Ella Cathrine Nielsen

Looking for information on Ella Cathrine Nielson born 1903.  She is my Grandfather's 1/2 sister, he is Svend Henry Johnsen.  Ella's mother was Laura Mathilde Christine Rasmussen and her father was Niels Christian Nielsen.  We found Ella in the 1911 census and again where she registered with the police station near her home by North Copenhagen University where she was employed.  We have heard that she married a Navy Officer and had a son named Birger.  We don't know her married name but we have also heard that her husband was called Sire or Saia or something like that.  Ella had a sister named Poula Anna Nielsen.  We have been told that Poula died young.

My father is Svend Henry Johnsen's son.  He is Donald Joseph Johnsen, Sr.  He is 85 years old and I am his son Eric.  Donald has been looking for family for a while and asked that I join him in the search.  We have found plenty of info on Svend but since we don't know his 1/2 sisters married name, we are stumped.

I am also in contact with Karsten Madsen who lives in Denmark and has helped me immensely with this.  He suggested that I post here.

Svend migrated to the U.S. in 1918 and did keep in touch with Ella and his mother Laura.

Note: The census states her parents has 3 (living) children.

The Nielsen family lived at Kongensgade 12A in Helsingør [Elsinore] for a number of years.
In the 1921 census, it is noted that they had moved from Svendborg to Helsingør in 1915:

thanks to all for the information.  I have some further info.

Now that you have provided who Sejer Nielsen is, we never truly knew, my father remembers that Sejer had a son, named Birger and so Birger Nielsen.

We are trying then to find Birger or his family since that is our relations that my father is trying to contact.

if you can help, it would be appreciated.  We didn't know for sure if Sejer was Ella's husband or what.  Now we know.

Since we know that Ella and Sejer lived in Helsingor for the 1930 Census and Laura died in Helsingor in 1940 and her husband Niels died there in 1947, isn't it probable that Ella and Sejer would live in Helsingor too as time went on?

I have emailed the Helsingor Archivist to find out if Sejer and his supposed son Birger are from there.  My father remembers his mother writing to Sejer and Birger in the 1940s and 1950s.  Birger could still be alive or his children.  His kids could be in their 50's or 60's now.

We looked up Birger Nielsen in the phone records and there are several in the Helsingor area.

any help is more than appreciated.  My father is so excited with all the help you guys have already provided.

I did try to look trough the marriages in Helsingør between 1930-1940 - no luck.
The problem is if the children were baptist like their father, they might have chosen a civil marriage - and those records are not online for Helsingør yet.

Ella Kathrine and Poula Anna were both baptized in Svendborg Vor Frue church 13 Apr. 1917 (maybe
they were visiting relatives for Easter together with their mother, who was a witness at their baptism).

Sejer was baptized 30 July 1911 in Svendborg Vor Frue church, and his confirmation was 5 Apr. 1925
in Helsingør Sankt Mariæ church:

There are no remarks in their birth records that they should have left the Evangelical Lutheran Church
of Denmark (Folkekirken).

But there may, of course, be other reasons for a civil marriage.
