I'm having a difficult time locating this town?  Or is it a farm?  Would this be a large place or small and what is the likelihood that the people will be somewhat related c1830's?  With a great deal of help I have followed the ancestral family of (my dna match) Peter Olsen b1873 and wife Karen Marie Pederson 1879; Ole Johansen aka Konradsen/Conradsen b1827 and wife Marie Pedersen; Conrad Betz b1781 and wife Sidse Nielsdatter.  There is a family also in Snertinge By with a daughter with the same name and age as my missing gg grandmother who turns up marrying my English ancestor in 1858 Copenhagen and then leaving Denmark.  The girl Johanne Hansdatter living at Snertige By is:

Shire:   Præstø   Place name:   Snertinge Bye
Source entry No:   C5871   Record No.:   818
Hans Andersen     49     Gift          Gaardmand
Karen Rasmusdatter     41     Gift          hans Kone
Ole Hansen     20     Ugift          deres Børn
Lars Hansen     18     Ugift          deres Børn
Karen Hansdatter     16     Ugift          deres Børn
Marie Hansdatter     14     Ugift          deres Børn
Cathrine Hansdatter     12     Ugift          deres Børn
Rasmus Hansen     9     Ugift          deres Børn
Johanne Hansdatter     4     Ugift          deres Børn

Her family is there in 1834 and Johanne (born 1836) is still there in 1850.  Is there a good chance they're related purely because they live in the same place?  Many thx

Bodil Pedersen

Snertinge is a village  (1840 ~400 inh.) about 8 km north of Vordingborg.

If there is only 1 Johanne Hansdatter in 1840 and 1850 it's probably the same.

The original census for Snertinge Bye 1840 is here (page 23-29):

and for 1850 (page 24-35):

I now see that I have not quite answered your question.
Have you seen Johannes christening in the church record? The witnesses could give an idea and so could the christenings of her siblings.

I have now found Johanne in Snertinge By in 1855, and she is living next door to the Konradsen family!  http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=120107&side=30.  She has the exact same name and age as my ancestor, and the Konradsen family is dna related to me.  Trouble is next census (1860) she is living in England.  I will look at her baptism, and parents marriage in hopes the Konradsen family appear.  Very many thanks...I guess I should check if she is on the 1860 census in Snertinge By, if so I will have to start over I guess.  Fingers crossed!

Many thanks Britta...I was just trying to find her on the 1860.  She marries Thomas Heiggs (Higgs says he's 22 but really he is 18) 19 Dec 1858 at the Trinitatis Church in Copenhagen age 22 (Marriage record at archives online: Amt Kobenhavn, Herred Sokkelund, Sogn Trinitatis, Viede 1858-1882, Opslag 37).  She lives in England on the 1861 census and her first child is born in England May of 1860 so I must have the wrong girl again.  Lots of people have looked at her marriage record to no avail.  No baptism date/parents, she dies before 1901 in England, only once says she comes from Sealand (Zealand, sjealland).  For a moment, given the dna match to a descendent of Conrad Betz (Ole Johansen/Conradsen; Peder Olsen, and then thru Kai Nils Felix Olsen's son I thought I'd finally broken through.  Could be one of the wives I suppose.  Unbelievable coincidence!  Back to the drawing board...  Very many thanks for all your help anyway.

Hi Lis B: Unfortunately, the Johanne I want cant still be in Denmark in 1860.  Johanne marries in 1858 Copenhagen, her daughter is born in May of 1860 in England, and she appears on the 1861 census with her husband in England.  I think I'm going to have to wait for some more dna matches between my mom and Danish people to narrow it down even more.  On the bright side...I'm getting closer now especially due to the dna.

HI Lizz

I cannot see how Johanne is connected to Ole Conradsen?

If this Johanne is still there in 1860, she cannot be the correct Johanne as mine is married and in England by 1860.  I was following my dna match person's family back and noticed a Johanne neighbor of same name and age and thought that might be the connection, but I am wrong.  I am dna related to Rai Nils Felix Olsen, but don't know where.  His family is all Danish, I just have one Danish ancestor, so the connection has to be through her but not sure how or who in Rai's ancestry connects to my Johanne..  Somewhere his ancestors are connected to the Johanne I am looking for, I will just have to keep looking.  Appreciate your help.  It is very frustrating but this dna match still gives me hope to find her.

Hi Lizz

Her name is very common in Denmark which make it very difficult.

I'm sorry, I just saw your message.  I do know of Kai Niels Felix Olsen he was born in 1910 and he went to America in 1946.  My English mother (who has a Danish great grandmother) has a dna match with his son born in 1956 America.  Both his parents (Kai and his wife Atrid Fenger Steen were born in Denmark.  I am English, so both our ancestors would have only crossed paths in Denmark prior to 1858 when my ancestor left for England.

Hi Lizz

Is this your Astrid: https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=95513228 ??

Yes that is Kai's wife.  Her father was a well known politician Oluf Peter Steen.  I'm not too sure whether my Johanne Hansdatter is related to their ancestors, I'm still working on Kai's, but coming to the end.  If no success, then I will move on to the Steen/Fenger family.  Maybe they will have a Johanne Hansdatter born c1837 who was in Copenhagen in 1858.

Very many thanks Lis B. Jensen for the two files on Conradsens and his wife.  This will make my search so much easier and I think I am able to come back down through children and their marriages.  This will help me a lot.  I did notice that they got married in Copenhagen so maybe other members of the family lived there.  This is something I can look into.  I really appreciate all your help with this and hope I can reciprocate at some time.  Thankyou!
