Thomas Madsen, Son of Mads Christensen, was added to the rolls in 1799.  In 1801 he is recorded as "276/229 and noted on the roll is "SL"  "Sølimit"
I believe it translates = 'Naval Recruitment District' -  'district in which military crew is printed for navy'

In 1805, opslag #21, he is 229/175 SL  25=R (?)  and then he disappears from the rolls.  Is it possible to trace him on navy rolls?
Kind regards, Rog

Inger Toudal

It's possible to trace him in the navy rolls Søruller, but these are not available at Arkivalieronline  :(

Thomas Madsen was 2 years old in 1801 when he was assigned to the Naval Recruitment District.  The Søruller is available on microfilm rolls by the year through the LDS Library.  What age of Thomas or what years would you suggest I start with?

Best wishes,  Rog Nelson

I have no experience with Søruller, but I think you should start with the year 1802 (mentioned in your link) or 1803:

"Sørullen
Værnepligtige til sømilitsen blev i starten optaget i lægdsrullen, men fra 1802 kom en forordning, hvor søruller skulle føres særskilt for hver amt.
I sørullen skulle optages alle søfolk og fiskere såvel i byen som på landet. Bondesønner der boede langs kysterne kunne også optages her.
Sørullen bestod af 3 ruller:
Ungdomsrullen fra 0-16 år
Hovedrullen fra 16-50 år
Ekstrarullen fra 50 år
Man stod normalt i sørullen hele livet."

Thomas Madsen was transferred to the 'SL' in 1802.  Would he be listed in the Søruller every year after 1802 or were the naval lists updated every three years like the Lægdsruller?

Best wishes, Rog

Question above and would he be on rolls for his lifetime?
