Hi,

I realise that Husum (in Holstein) is now in Germany, but I'm hoping someone here could give tips on how to research further.

I'm looking for information (family, death) on Hans Henrik Schröder, born in Norrköping (Sweden) 1717. In Swedish sources he is "abroad" 1756 and in Husum 1772. Also of interest is his brother Abraham Schröder, born in Norrköping 1727, who is said to be a merchant in Husum 1756, and is no longer alive in 1772.

According to this map, there was a census 1769 in Husum: https://www.dis-danmark.dk/kipkort/kort/sles1769.gif

- but it's not indexed, so you have to find it at Rigsarkivet in Copenhagen. Cannot see it here, unfortunately:

Copies of the church books from Sydslesvig up to 1876 are available at Rigsarkivet: https://www.sa.dk/k/brug-arkivet/besoeg

https://www.sa.dk/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Sydslesvigske_sogne_liste.pdf

- but only for Danish citizens, and German citizens living permanently in Denmark for their own genealogical research. Otherwise you have to
make an application to the Nordelbische Ev.-Luth Kirche: https://www.sa.dk/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Blanket-laan-af-slesvigske-mikrokort.pdf

You could contact Kirchenkreisarchiv Nordfriesland: http://www.archivnordkirche.de/index.php/Nordfriesland.html
- and ask if they can help you against payment, if  you are not able to visit the archives.

Husum is in Nordfriesland and a lot of the church books for the region are available on Ancestry.com if you have the right account. I've been checking them for my own ancestors in another part of Nordfriesland.

If you go to this page for German, Lutheran church books: http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=61229

Select Schleswig-Holstein from the 'Historic Region' drop down on the right, then from 'City or District' you can select two entries that I can see for Husum:

Husum u Krst
Husum, Schobull

Husum u Krst only seems to list Births (Taufen) and Marriages (Heiraten), but Husum Schobull appears to list Deaths (Tote) for 1620-1800. I'm not sure if these districts cover all of Husum or not though, you'd have to check.

Although the area was Danish until 1864 most of the books in the region are in German, but they can be quite easy to scan through for names.
