From many on a facebook forum and this forum I've found a great deal of wonderful information on the family of Michel Jensen Sort and Kirstin Laursdatter.
But I've hit a snag.
According to a military record someone kindly read for me, we learned that Michel had 3 children by 1803.

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me find the missing child.
I searched over and over again in the same parish records where I found the other two children and where Michel and Kirstin both lived and died with no success.

I've found only two of the children.
Missing is one that must have been born between 1801 (1801 census shows 2 children) and 1803 (the military record for 1803 says 3 children).
I'm listing every thing I have so far:

Baptism record for Michel cannot be found in Tornby where the military records say all four brothers were born (records missing)

Parents Jens Nielsen and Inger Nielsdatter derived from finding 4 brothers (Niels, Jorgen, Michel, & Peder) in the military records together – father Jens Nielsen. (listed below in date order)
Then finding the youngest brother, Peder's baptism record with parents Jens Nielsen and Inger Nielsdatter in Tornby. (also listed below in date order)

Michel's Father: There were 3 Jens Nielsen's in Tornby.  Figured out the Jens Nielsen born in 1738 would be the correct Jens Nielsen because of confirmation records found for Jens Nielsen SORT #5 under 1755 along with censuses showing his birth in 1738.
Confirmation of father Jens Nielsen April 6 1755

and then something about having been ill and not met

I asked - So was he a Navy Man?
No, I don't think he was in the Navy. - Then he would have been transferred to the sea rolls.
(however someone else tells me the 1801 Census says he was a sailor)
I had missed the L.S. (Land Soldier) in the 1798 roll.
So he had probably had some military training and the sent back to the parish.  ~Ole

1801 Census:
https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid1550981

we are assuming the name for the wife and the birthdate for Michel is wrong in this census because there is a Michel Jensen age 50   1751 (the year is too early but have found many mistakes in the censuses).

Married to an Else Nielsdatter age 48  1753  (must be a mistake in the census - see about Else below)

with 2 children:

Inger Michelsdatter born in 1798 in Hjorring

Else Michelsdatter born 1799 in Hjorring

The only 2 children we know (from birth records that Michel and Kirstine (not Else) have.

NOW look at the 2 families #23 and #24 (what do the remarks say for both?)
Both families list a Else Nielsdatter as the wife with same age for wife of Michel Jensen age 50 and Niels ??? age 50
We believe one wife was listed twice by mistake.

Citat"There are many errors in the first two census 1787 and 1801. I have read somewhere that an estimated 10-20 % of the population may have been missed. In some parishes, the parish pastor created the census lists from pure memory of his parishioners."

Hi Cyndi

I think you have to look in the parish register for Vidstrup parish, as Tornby and Vidstrup parishes were combined in that period. Sometimes that means, that everything is just put into one of the registers. Otherwise it may be possible, that it is an older child living somewhere else with family or was born somewhere else - it may even be a child, that has died or a foster child. But take a look at Vidstrup.

Sincerely
Morten

Thank you Morten
for the ideas.
I have looked in Vidstrup as well....however I must admit I can't read them very well and could very well have missed it.
most of the records I've found, if I recall right, have all been found in the books that include, Hjorring (I've been told this is Sankt Catharine), Sankt Hans, and Sankt Olai.

I don't think it would be an older child living somewhere else as they just married in December 1797 with the first child being born in 1798 and the 2nd in 1799.  I guess it could be a foster child.  Not sure where to look for that.   ???
