Census 1880, Odense amt, Køng sogn, Gummerup, Opslag #34;  Niels Nielsen, age 58 & wife Mette Marie Christensdatter, age 52
Niels is identified as a 'day laborer.'   Does the occupation or title following dagleier mean agricultural worker?

Kind regards,
Rog

Niels Nielsen is Daglejer i Agerbruget - day labourer in the agriculture.
So you are right.

Sorry to step in here, but would "Daglejer" mean the individual had a steady job working at a specific location day after day OR did he have to seek work each day and take whatever came his way?

Just wondering.

Hi Lynn

It might be for one day, but I think that was more often for several or many days as far as there work to do on the farms.
