Hello,

I think I have found the birth record for Soren Baerntsen here 10 Mar 1784 in Nim, Skanderborg (bottom right): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=166964#166964,28035382

The father looks like Baernt Hyld? something? Halvedoor?

Is someone able to translate the record for me?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you so much Svend!  Smiley

Hyld is an odd last name in Denmark?

Also, I do not see Soren Baerntsen on the 1801 Census but I do see other children.  I am assuming these are her children from a previous relationship?

Thanks Inger.

I looked at that 1787 Census record but the issue I have is that my Soren Baerntsen is born in Vim and on all the Census and marriage documents for him he is born in Vim.

Edited to add:
I think I may have misread the marriage record for Soren Baerntsen and Karen Jensdatter.  It looks like there is a different city mentioned and the same "Hyld" also.

Søren's brother Christen was baptized 4th Sunday post Epiphany 1786 in Nim:

https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=166964#166964,28035386 - right page

The family could have moved to Hansted before 1 Jul. 1787, when the 1787 census was taken.

Could be Bernt's father:

I read the surname in the original 1787 Census as Hyll: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid781132 - see Original Source

The name Hyld has been added in the marriage record 21 Dec. 1816.

- the place name is Eldrup (in Tolstrup parish).

Inger you amaze me!  Smiley

I am making my way through all of the fantastic information you found and I have just two questions.  If Soren Jorgen Hyll is the same as the Soren Hyll on the 1787 is it possible for the age gap to be so large?  I know the Census documents are not always accurate but the Census would make him born about 1709 a difference of 6 years.

In the 1715 birth notification document you found does that say that Soren Jorgen Hyll's father is Johan Baernt Hyll?

Also, I found this: http://ddd.dda.dk/nygaard/visning_billed.asp?id=163228&sort=e

It is the page before the one you found and it looks like the same person in the same location but I am not sure what it means.

And is this one any relation to the other two? http://ddd.dda.dk/nygaard/visning_billed.asp?id=163230&sort=e

I think the 3 Nygaard notes refer to the same lieutenant J.B. Hyll. I haven't looked up the original records.

It seems the father is called Bernt Tyre at the birth of Søren Jørgen in 1715, and Liuet. Hyll at the birth of 3 daughters 1718, 1719, and 1723,
and the burial of a 5 y old child 1723, all in Ørslevkloster parish, Viborg.

The death record for Lieut. Johan Berent Hylé 1737 is from the neigbouring Højslev parish, Viborg.

At the marriage 1753 in Hansted parish, Skanderborg, the groom is called Søren Jørgen Hyld.

The bride could be here:

https://www.brejl.dk/vejlegejst.html#bjerre

38 Hans Jørgen Guldberg, degn i Urlev, Stenderup og Dalby. 26.6.1732, fol.127B.

2) Hans Guldberg 16
3) Else Cathrine Guldberg 14
4) Claus Guldberg 12
5) Dines Guldberg 9
6) Ove Guldberg 7
7) Marie Elisabeth Guldberg 4
8) Helvig Guldberg 1½.
FM: Johan Gotfred, degn i Hvirring, Tamdrup og Hornborg.

Hans Jørgen Guldberg: http://ddd.dda.dk/nygaard/visning_billed.asp?id=121655&sort=e

Schoolmaster Søren Hyll's son born 1759 in Bryrup parish, Skanderborg, was named Hans Jørgen Guldberg:
http://ddd.dda.dk/nygaard/visning_billed.asp?id=163243&sort=e

Hans Jørgen was married to Ane Sørensdatter 1785 in Skjold parish, Vejle:

Difficult question. At his burial 29 sep. 1788 in Hansted parish, his age is recorded as 81 years:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17123424#163416,27448437 - right page

You also see an age gap of 6 years for Berent Sørensen Hyld's wife Anne Christensdatter: 35 y at the 1787 census, and 50 years at death 1796.

Hans Sørensen Hyld, b. 1759 (29 y at the 1787 census) is recorded as 32 y old at his burial 18 May 1788:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17123424#163416,27448436 - left page

An age gap of +/- 5 years is not unnormal at that time, but I suppose it could be even larger.

Ah, I see.  I thought there were only two parishes in the book.  Thank you!

I am now working on trying to find where Anne Christensdatter was born and when.  Based on what you were able to find it is possible that her father was Christen Rasmussen?  Based on her age at the 1787 Census she would have been born around 1752 which means she should show up in the Nim parish transcripts but I do not see her.  Those transcripts begin in 1748 so if she was, in fact, 50 at death she may be lost to me.

We have the following so far:
Anne Christensdatter was buried on Ascension Day 1796 in Nim:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=166964#166964,28035429 - right page:

1114 Anne Christensdatter i Nim. 20.2.1797, fol.312B.
E: Bent Sørensen. B: Søren 13, Frederikke 6. FM: Laurids Mortensen sst.

Probate: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17177731#195712,32762389

*******************************************************************

- carried by Jens Nielsen's wife in Nim. She could be Anne's sister:

Skanderborg, Nim, Nim, Niim Bye, , , FT-1787, C5088
Name:     Age:     Marital status:     Position in household:     Occupation:
Jens Nielsen     27     Gift      Mand      Bonde og Huusmand
Dorthe Christensd.     24     Gift      Kone
Christen Jensen     5           deres Søn
Christen Rasmussen     65     Enkemand      Konens Stiffader

Konens Stiffader = The wife's father?

If Dorthe is Anne's sister there would only be about a 10-11 year age gap which is still possible as one might have been born first and Dorthe much later. (around 1763 but I do not see her in the Nim transcripts)

I see an Anne Sophie Dorthe Christensdatter born 1758 in Nim: Christen Thomasens datter - Anne Sophie Dorthe

I see a marriage in 1781 in Nim: Jens Nielsen af Nim Kloster og Anne Sophie Dorthe Christensdatter af Nim (trolovet og copuleret)

In 1791: Jens Nielsens hustru Anne Sophie Dorthe - 34 år

In 1802: almisselem Christen Rasmussen - 80 år (which makes him the right age for the 1787 Census and being born around 1722)

Then we are back to the 1801 Census that Svend found:
All members of the household
Name:    Age:    Married?:    Pos. in household:    Occupation:    BirTD place:
Bernt Hyld      39     Gift                           Mand     Huusmand og skræder
Ane Cathrine Envoldsdatter 43     Gift                           Hans kone
Anders Pedersen         10     Ugift                           Deres børn
Maren Pedersdatter     6     Ugift                           Deres børn
gl. Christen Rasmussen83     Enkemand              Indsidder     Lever af almisse
Zidzel Bertels                  70     Enke                           Indsidder     Ligeledes [lever af almisse]

Bernt Hyld = Johan Baernt Sorensen Hyld = who married secondly to Ane Cathrine Envoldsdatter.  So I think I can be certain that the father of Anne Christensdatter, Johan's first wife, is in fact Christen Rasmussen.  I dismissed him initially because the description beside his name on the Census indicated he was essentially a lodger/living on charity and had no relation to the head of the house.  The question is, why I can I not find Anne or Dorthe's birth records in Nim when it appears they have lived there all their life?  I should at least be able to find Dorthe.

In Hansted I found in the 1739 parish transcripts: Christen Rasmussens barn af Rådved - Anne (making her too old I think for Census or death in 1798)
In Hansted I found in the 1750 parish transcripts: Christen Rasmussens barn af Hansted - Anne (making her 37 in 1787 and 46 in 1796 at death)

But I did not find any birth for a Dorthe (with any name combination ie: Anne Sophie Dorthe) in the Hansted parish transcripts.

Christen Rasmussen is recorded as Dorthe Christensdatter's stepfather: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid824091 - see Original Source
- widower after 1st marriage

You would think I would know by now that Stiffader = Step-father  Smiley

I found this in the 1697-1834 parish transcripts for Hvirring, Hornborg and Tamdrup.  Specifically the Hvirring og Hornborg sogne 1742-1765, blandet records.

102b 1754 Døbt Christen Thomsen i Honum - navn ikke noteret (the year after the marriage and ties in with her age at the 1787 Census)

I think it is possible that this is my Anne as it appears this child is born but does not have a name yet?  But then I also found this confirmation in the same records:
211b 1753 Christen Thomsens pige Kirsten i Honum (the year of his marriage to Frederikke Wulfsdatter)

Possibly a child from a previous marriage?  And, if so, would I not expect to see her listed in the probate extract?  If she is not listed it would mean she is either deceased or is a child from a different Christen Thomsen?

In the Nim, Nim, Skanderborg parish records I found a birth as follows:

1753
fol 17
Christen Thomasens datter - Mette

I am not sure this is the same Christen Thomasen given that he seems to be in Honum until at least 1756 when Wolf Ernest is born.  Then Christen dies in 1764 age 46 in Nim as does Wulf Ernest in 1763.

Is Lemmiche a different spelling version to her brother Markus Lemcke i Nim noted in the probate extract?

Christen Thomasen's burial Dom. 20 post Trin. 1764: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17125352#166964,28035407 - No 9

The child baptized in Hvirring parish 27 Jan. 1754 must be Anne, I think. The godmother could be Søren Friis' widow from Nim.

Thanks Inger!  That is what I think as well.  Everything gathered thus far points to that child being Anne Christensdatter.

In this connection: Pige = tjenestepige  (Dreng = tjenestedreng)

She is not mentioned as Datter, as are many of the other girls in the confirmation records.
