Hello,

I am having a difficult time trying to decipher the location of Poul Hansen in the death record of his daughter, Mette Cathrine Poulsdatter.

Mette Cathrine Poulsdatter died 14 Sep 1835 #14 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17137899#179903,30510528

It ends in "strup" but I cannot make out the first 4 letters.

Knowing where Poul Hansen is from might help me find the marriage record of Niels Sorensen from Ladby, Odense and Mette Cathrine Poulsdatter around 1833/34.

That's Kjølstrup.

Ole

Thanks Ole.  That must be the same as Kølstrup?  Just a different spelling?

Yes, it was the oldfashioned way of spelling.

Was it common to not marry in the parish that you were born in?  I found her baptism record bottom right here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?bsid=179901#179901,30510106.

She was also still living in Kølstrup in 1834, had her son Poul Nielsen there and died in Kølstrup in 1835.  It seems odd that if she was born and raised in Kølstrup that she would not marry there also?  ???

Yes, that was unusual. Via FS I found their marriage in Rynkeby

Maybe they didn't like the vicar in Kølstrup.

The notes say, that they were married in Kølstrup church by the vicar of Rynkeby and Revninge parishes.

Ah, I see.  So maybe they liked that vicar better and the marriage was recorded by him in Rynkeby even though they were married in Kølstrup?
