Hello,

I found what I think is the birth record for Ane Pedersdatter here top right 31 May 1812 in Vindinge, Tune, Roskilde, Denmark: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-894Q-PZQG?i=25&wc=M5VV-W3N%3A357517901%2C359232501%2C359455201%2C359458601&cc=2078555

I know that sometimes parents do not use patronymics but I have only come across it once doing my family tree.  In this case, it looks like the father Johannes Pedersen, has died before the birth of his daughter but I cannot decipher much more than that?

I got her birth information from the Census as follows:
1845 in Ormitzløv, Vemmelev, Slagelse, Soro, Denmark

Christen Madsen 36 Gift lever af sin jordlod Her i sognet
Ane Pedersdatter 33 Gift Hans kone Vindinge,københavns amt

1850 in Korsør Købstad, Slagelse, Sorø, Denmark

Christen Madsen 41 Gift Arbejdsmand Vemmelev Sogn, Sorø Amt
Ane Pedersdatter 39 Gift Hans hustru Vindinge Sogn, Roskilde Amt

1860 in Korsør Købstad, Slagelse, Sorø, Denmark

Christen Madsen 51 Gift Huuseier, Arbeidsmand Vemmeløv S.
Anna født Petersen 48 Gift hans Kone Reersløv

1880 in Korsør Købstad, Slagelse, Sorø, Denmark

Christen Madsen 72 Gift Arbeidsmand, Huusfader Vemmeløv Sogn, Sorø Amt
Anna Madsen født Petersen 69 Gift hans Kone, Huusmoder Vindinge Sogn, Roskilde Amt

So, would she be Petersen? Pedersen? Or Pedersdatter?  Was her father in the military?  If someone is able to translate the record for me it is appreciated.  Also, why does she say Roskilde and Kobenhavn as birth locations?

Hello Rebecca

The record says

Anna 21 Maii 1812
    gjorde Barsel hos Rasmus Hansen.
    ------------------------- translation:
Anna 21 Maii 1812
Karen Lind, widow after late Johannes Petersen
former seaman at 4th Division 3rd Compagny,
carried by the mother herself. Witnesses at the bap-
tism were most of the farmers in Vindinge.
Bapt. on 1st Sunday p. Trinit. i.e. then 31st of May 1812 -
NB The mother came on her walking tour to Vindinge and
had her childbirth at Rasmus Hansen.

So after some recovery she probably continued her walking with her little daughter to .....
And she may have come from København, where her late husband was in the Navy, and there it was more common not to use the patronymics.

Thanks so much Ole!  I wondered since he was important in the Navy if he did not use patronymics.

I could not find his death (Johannes) in Vindinge, Tune, Roskilde, Denmark so he must have died somewhere else.
