Hej

The Rigsarkiv put 2.3 million images on AO this week!  Exciting!  Thank you to the volunteers and employees that make this possible.

I found some new records that could be useful, but can anyone tell me more about them?  What are Departments 1, 2, and 3?  What types of records are these, and are they only for certain people?  Luckily, there are registers for these arkivserier, so I will look for my ancestors if I think they could be in these records.

Hej Lisa

thats a big question. but I can inform you short about it here.

Danske kancelli is archive over the danish stats administration. from ca. 1400-to 1848

From ca. 1660-1799 we find the archive over Royal resolutions and circulars and like.
Acts and open letters - it i not devided and regions.

dept. 1 i dept. for Church- and schools, education

Forestillinger one finds the appointments in the mentioned area.
Jorunal is the jounaled act
registrant is an overwiew over names and places
registrantsager is an overview over acts.

dept. 2. Is justits- and policedept. for Sjælland
Brevbog is a book with copies of open letters to and from the Kancelli conc. justits and policeacts.
Brevsager is a copy af the acts
Kongelige resolutioner are resolutions conc. abovementioned area
registrant is an overview with names, areas and perhaps also "name" of the act- what it is dealing about

dept. 3 is Jysk and Fyens justits- and policedept.  (for Jylland and Fyen and also for Norway fram 1800-1814
Forestillinger og resolutions: Royal appointments and resolutions

Fællesafdeling contents acts from the whole country concerning testaments etc.
blanketregnskaber contents bills and accounts in forwritten forms so called blanketter

Hoping that helps you

Forgot to tell you, that the registrant -register is the entrance. Here you look for the persons name, parish, church, school etc.
and will find the act /case nr. /Journal nr. and also the book nr. or name, because sometimes there are more books. It can sometimes be a little difficult to code the numbers-but i am shure at that time they all have J as letter and then a number. The books are often those called journals, but can also be testaments, resolutions, forestillinger (which actual often are applications)

The letterbooks (brevbøger) are a little more diffiult, here I look for year- if I don't know the year I sometimes look several years through. because if the act /case is simple they sometimes archieve the incomming letter -letter from the person or parish etc. under the date with only a remark that the permission etc. has been given or rejected. So the only thing one finds is the open letter.
God hunt

Thank you Grethe!  That is great information.  And thanks for the tip about looking first at the register til registrant.  I think I might be very busy for a while.

Mange venlige hilsener.

I think I have to tell you a little more:

J- letter stand for cases archieved in "Journals"- the book with the name Journaler
R -letter often stands for  resolutions-but can also be an F

About testaments it can be different, mostly it is T but also P can be present.

Sometimes one find S- letter in front of the number- can be Sager, but also Brevbog-  it is seldom that we find letter B- for brevbog- it can be journalised under different letters-if there is a case- or as I said, one has to look the Brevbog through- there are often  a heading.

But it is only some hints- in the different departments the clercks can have made different letters in front of the journal number, and then comes the "guess/hunt" how to find the case. .

I have one relative who was a pastor during this 1800-1848 time period.  I used the 1. Departement register til registrant first, then registrant, and also registrantsager and found him about 10 times.  I also found his 2 appointments in the Forestillinger, and found him once so far in a Journal.  It's nice to have some extra information on him!

I tried to look for Testamenter.  Can the wills appear years before the person's death?  I only looked in the year of death, no luck.

Next I'm trying the 2. Departement records.  I only have 1 small family on Sjælland at that time, so looking should be easy.

Thanks for all the help.

Yes, Lisa

Wills (also) occour in the year the family or the family head made them and signed them.
I don't know where -what part of Denmark - you are looking for, but if it is Jylland I can link you to this excellent register.

https://kkermit.dis-danmark.dk/jyske-blandet-10.htm

a lot of Jyske registre are transcribed in this page:

https://kkermit.dis-danmark.dk/

Under Jyske registre ægteskaber (merriage and jyske registre blandede (do. mixed cases)
and there are many other interesting things on his homepage.

Entrance for cases etc. are also "Sjællandske registre"-but they are not transcribed.  But they are on the net.

https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/other/index-creator/149/638/19981629

there are -for your need  - registers for fynske og smålandske registre from 1699- 1699- here it is only the registers who are digitalized . Smålandske means here othere islands than Fyn. thats also Falster-Lolland etc.

https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/other/index-creator/149/638/19981508

The registers contens an overview over all kind of cases brought in -and out - to -from - the Danske Kancelli and it gives a summary of the case and the case numbers and journals. One looks for them in the year and go through the book.
Unfortunately the registers for sjælland -only koncepts - are not digitalisezed??? so thats the reason one have to look through the books. And of course for a foreigner I know it can be difficult, but every case has a heading with the persons name and adress.- and a number, so one looks for that

Mange hilsner
