Hi Flemming, It might help the forum to know more about the Rasmus Hansen you seek. I think you are referring to this man, below. I cannot look now at Ancestry.com to try to help you find an immigration record, but maybe someone else will.

Another place to look for more information is Family Search, a free site with many American records.

Yes, it is this person I am looking for!
After the divorce around 1888, he disappeared from the earth's surface, but when his brothers were found in the U.S. it is very obvious that my great grandfather also emigrated.
Flemming
Ja, det er denne person jeg efterlyser!
Efter skilsmissen omkring 1888 er han forsvundet fra jorden overflade, men da hans brødre er fundet i USA er det meget nærliggende at min oldefar også er emigreret.
Flemming

Jane C

Oh good. And thank you so much for writing in English!

I cannot look now. Maybe someone else can look. In the meantime, can you tell more about the brothers in the USA?

Hello Flemming,

Here is a link to a brief death and burial notice for a Rasmus Hansen who died in 1911 near Longmont, Colorado (Boulder County).  There are a couple of web sites that have burial listings and/or headstone photos for Niwot Cemetery but Rasmus Hansen does not appear in any I found.

I am sorry I cannot write in Danish.

Well, I did not find Rasmus Hansen! I don't think the Rasmus Hansen in Colorado is the right man, but I cannot find my note saying why. Paul, Janice, your thoughts? Lars's son Christian immigrated in 1900...perhaps if we find him he might be with Rasmus. It's possible. It would help to have Rasmus with a family member because there is more than one Rasmus Hansen born 1850 in Denmark, living in USA.

Do you know when Rasmus immigrated, Flemming? When did he divorce? Did he divorce in Denmark?

Here are some records for you that maybe you do not have:

IMMIGRATION of Lars and Anhelt as you posted, Flemming: Lars left Denmark on board "Oscar II" on June 4, 1902 with his son Anhart Hansen. Arrived New York 17 June 1902. Destination: brother and uncle, H.P. Rasmussen, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota

IMMIGRATION of the rest of the family. It seems Anhart went back to Denmark to travel with them:
Port of Departure: Copenhagen
Departure Date: 19 November 1902
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Arrival Date: 2 Dec 1902
Ship Name: Oscar II
The following passengers are grouped with a line, showing them to be traveling together:
* Caroline Hansen wife, married, 51 years 2 months, born about 1851, Danish, going to join husband Lars Hansen in Bixby, Minnesota [ Bixby is in Steele County, Minnesota]
*Antranh Hansen [ = Anhart Hansen] farmer, single, age 18 Years 1 Month, born about 1884, Danish, male
*Hansine Hansen, servant, single, age 16 years 3 months, born about 1886, Danish, female

Clara Svendsen

Dear Jane C. and Paul Løndal-Schmidt!
Many thanks for the information I am very grateful!
There is much to introduce the family board.

My great grandfather name only Rasmus Hansen, not to other names.
He was born in Nakskov Madeskov June 29, 1850 and must be 40 years in 1890.
His wife Marie Andersen born 15th August 1853 left him 1884th She traveled to Cleveland Ohio with engineer Carl Hansen.

My grandmother was baptized in the Methodist Church in Copenhagen, so maybe grandma's mother was a Methodist.

This I know from my late aunt. (Mothers sister)
They are never found, but a letter home in 1912, signing herself "Marie Hansen" (Born Andersen)

Now, according to Ellis Island, she traveled to Cleveland, 31 august 1894th With him, she has 2 children: Carl Hansen 5 years and 3 months, and Edward C. Hansen, 10 years.

Who are the parents of the children is uncertain.
With my great grandfather she had 2 children: my grandmother and her sister were handed over to Rasmus Hansen's mother.

I'm not sure that Rasmus Hansen traveled to America, but when I, after 20 years of searching, can not find him in Denmark, I thought it was an opportunity he had gone over to the family.

Once again many thanks for the overwhelming interest.
Greetings
Flemming Svendsen

We may never find Rasmus, but Marie (Andersen) Hansen died 1923 in Indiana:

The online family tree that Jane listed identifies William Marius Hansen's parents as Jens Carl Hansen and Karen Marie Christensen.

Jens Carl Hansen was born 26 June 1853 and Carl Hansen in 1900 Cleveland census listed June 1854 birth.

W. M. Hansen had a sister Anna who married Hjalmer Miller in Cleveland 1899 (attached)

In 1910 Carl and Marie had moved to Lakewood, Cuyahoga County:

Carl Hansen 56 Denmark, married 16 years, 2nd marriage, to US 1893
Mary Hansen 56 Denmark, 2nd marriage, to US 1894

Sometime between 1910 and 1918 they and the daughter Anna's family moved to Fremont, Indiana where Carl died:

1920 Fremont, Steuben County, Indiana
Hjalmer Miller 44 Denmark, to US 1894
Anna A. Miller 38 Denmark, to US 1896
Holger Miller 19 Ohio
Ethel M. Miller 14 Ohio
Hans A. Miller 5 Indiana
Arthur P. Miller 3-3/12 Indiana
Marie Hansen 66 Denmark, widow, mother in law, to US 1894

Flemming, are we looking at the right family?

In the old query that Jane referenced, you listed Marie's name as Andersen.

On the daughter Anna's marriage record her mother is listed as Karen M. Christensen.

Here is Anna's emigration registration:

Name:  Hansen, Anna Amalie Christine Occupation:  Tyende (m/k land)
Age:  15 Destination:  Cleveland, Ohio
Contract no.:  40300 Registration date:  3/31/1896

Last residence:  Bandholm, Maribo Destination country:  USA
Destination city:  Cleveland Destination state:  Ohio
Name of ship:  Thingvalla
IDcode:  D9396H5115

Her Bandholm confirmation lists Arninge birthplace:

Anna Amalie Kirstine Hansen born 22 May 1881, parents Jens Karl Hansen and Karen Marie Petersen, 29 (Arninge 1863-1891 opslag 63 no.3)

Carl Edvard Rasmus Hansen born 27 January 1884, parents Jens Karl Hansen and Karen Marie Petersen, 31 (Arninge 1863-1891 opslag 31 last)

And, if this is the same Carl and Marie, why would they marry again in Ohio?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Peter William Marius Hansen's mother is listed as Christensen in 1880 census, but his birth record lists her as Karen Marie Petersen 26 (Hunseby 1877-1891 opslag 3 no. 5)

Homer, I think it's that Jens Carl Hansen (called Carl) was married two times - both women were Marie.

1. Karen Marie Christensen born 1852, the daughter of Peder Christensen - called MARIE
2. Marie Andersen born about 1853 - this is Flemming's ancestor

I also looked askance at that 1880 census and the online tree and wondered about that changed surname for Karen Marie.  Also it is a little wierd that the former Mrs. Rasmus Hansen, divorced in 1888 and not yet remarried, is traveling in 1893 with children, one of whom is certainly not her own (and perhaps both are not her own). Although she did marry Carl right away in USA. The oddness is more that 10-year-old Carl Edvard Hansen is leaving his mother behind in Copenhagen (perhaps this is true for both boys?)...if we have this story straight.

1880
Jens Carl Hansen and Karen Marie Christensen are in Hunseby, Musse, Maribo, Denmark with their children Jensine Margrethe Hansen (aka Dora in the family tree online) and Peter W. Marius Hansen (aka Morris William Hansen] per Danish census.
1880
Rasmus Hansen and Marie Andersen are in Copenhagen, per Danish census.
1884
Carl Edvard Hansen was born (27 January; 02 January 1884 per naturalization record) to Jens Carl Hansen and wife Karen Marie, per birth record.
1888
Rasmus Hansen and Marie Andersen divorced about 1888, per Flemming.
1889
Carl Hansen was born about 1889 [to whom?], per immigration record etc.
1893
Jens Carl Hansen the father immigrates to USA in 1893 per USA census (1900 and 1910)
1894
Marie Andersen (formerly Mrs. Rasmus Hansen) brought Edvard Carl Hansen (age 10) and Carl Hansen (age 5) with her to USA in 1894, per immigration record.
1894
Marie Andersen married Carl Hansen 12 September 1894 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, per marriage record.
1895
Karen Marie Christensen (Marie) died in Copenhagen in 1895, per the family online tree - no other source yet. Therefore, assuming this to be correct, this couple had divorced, as her husband had remarried the year before.
1900
US Census 1900 in Cleveland states that Charles Hanson immigrated 1893, Mary Hanson immigrated 1893, and they had been married 5 years. So the Mary in Cleveland is definitely not the Karen Marie of the 1880 census.

Jane C

I meant to edit but I guess too much time lapsed. I was going to say couldn't Karen Marie Christensen in the 1880 census and Karen Marie Petersen in the birth records you found be the same, given that her father is Peder Christensen? In both cases her husband is Jens Carl Hansen and those children's names and ages track through to the USA along with Jens Carl and his second wife.

Flemming, are we looking at the right family?

(Snip)

Hi Homer.
No, there's something wrong!
Marie was born Andersen d 15th august 1853 in Ørbæk parish Svendborg county
Her only name is Marie
She's only child, daughter of Anders Knudsen and Maren Nielsdatter.
Said family knows I did not.
Flemming

Clara Svendsen

The story is:
Marie Andersen, my great-grandmother, born in Ørbæk Parish, Svendborg County, was maid of Rasmus Hansen's parents in Sandby Parish Maribo county.

Marie Andersen was pregnant with Rasmus Hansen as the father and a daughter was born in Sandby parish Maribo county 10th May 1878 called Hansine Margrethe Hansen.
Hansine was immediately handed over to Rasmus Hansen's parents who took care of her.
Rasmus and Marie traveled to Copenhagen where he lived as a greengrocer.
Marie got pregnant again and she gave birth to my grandmother on the 7th juni 1883rd
My grandmother, Dagmar Marie Hansen was immediately after baptism returned to Rasmus Hansen's parents in Sandby.
Also I have naturally wondered about these actions!
In 1883, Marie delivered a petition for legal separation from Rasmus Hansen.
I have read this at the Provincial Archives in Copenhagen, but when I wanted to continue his research was the rest of arkivalierne been away. One could certainly not find them.
I think Marie has had a lover, this machinist Carl Hansen, who apparently has had the two boys, Edward and Carl, with another woman.
I will as soon as possible try to find Carl Hansen Man in Copenhagen.

Hej Flemming,

On ancestry.com there is a family tree for Anhart Hansen.  Apparently the person who posted it is a relative of his.  If you want me to contact him or her, send me your e-mail address to PLondahlsmid snabel(a) Lexcominc.net.  I will then try to contact the person.

Med venlig hilsen
Paul

Hi Paul.
Many thanks for your observation.
If you think of Gary Jacobson, I've already had e-mails with him.
Gary promised to ask around in the family, but I have not heard from him for weeks.

If it is not about Gary Jacobson you may contact him, you never know what it can bring.
Greetings

The attached 1909 marriage of youngest son Carl "Charles" born 1889 lists his parents as "Charles" Hansen and Mary Anderson:

If correct, then he was a half brother of both Anna Amalie Kirstine and Carl Edvard Rasmus Hansen, and the daughters of Rasmus and Marie.

I don't find his birth record at Bandholm or Arninge, so I suppose he was born somewhere in Copenhagen.

In 1910, he and new bride were living with her parents in Cleveland:

Claude B Amy 41 Ohio
Minnie L Amy 40 "
Gladys M Amy 13 "
Albert D Amy 10 "
Charles Hansen 21 "  son-in-law, teamster
Ivah Hansen 19 " daughter

In 1920, Ivah 29 is still with her parents but listed as divorced, and I don't find Charles.

He also does not appear in 1917-18 draft registrations.

Maybe he returned to Denmark?

Hans Peter Rasmussen
Born 21 January 1858 Sandby, Maribo, Denmark

Son of Niels Mathiasen & Mette Margrethe Rasmusdatter.

Thank you for that birth date of 1858 for Hans Peter Rasmussen, Flemming.  As we found out more, we could see the 1880 census could not be the right one.

These records, posted above, are a "perfect fit" with what you say.

Now we have new information from Homer. From what Homer found we know:

Edward was the son of Jens Carl Hansen and Karen Marie Christensen. (Source: birth record, Arninge 1863-1891 opslag 31 last)

Carl was the son of Jens Carl Hansen and Marie Andersen. (Source: marriage record for "Charles Hansen Jr." = Carl Hansen)

These are the two boys who traveled to America with Marie Andersen.

Flemming, are we looking at the right family?

In the old query that Jane referenced, you listed Marie's name as Andersen.

(Snip)

Hi Homer.
No, there's something wrong!
Marie was born Andersen d 15th august 1853 in Ørbæk parish Svendborg county
Her only name is Marie
She's only child, daughter of Anders Knudsen and Maren Nielsdatter.
Said family knows I did not.
Flemming

I am sorry Flemming, I do not understand about this.
I think you mean NOTHING is wrong.

You knew Rasmus Hansen's wife was Marie ANDERSEN. This was CORRECT.

;)

Here is the old query:
"I rigtig mange år har jeg søgt min mormors far, Rasmus Hansen, født i Nakskov Landsogn, Madeskov den 29. juni 1850. I Ft 1880 er han grønthandler og bor Gernersgade i Kbh. sammen med konen Marie Andersen.  - Flemming"

When we talk about "Karen Marie," she is #1 wife to Jens Carl Hansen.

Hi Homer and Jane.

Maybe there is something I am wrong by:
I've never heard that Carl Hansen's real name is Jens Carl Hansen and that there is a connection to Hunseby Maribo.
This is news to me!
I will look into it!
Flemming

Homer Ficken

I believe record 107 on the attached page is birth of Carl Hansen, 22 April 1889.

In 1880, Rasmus and Marie were listed on Store Kongensgade:

København, København (Staden), Store Kongensgade (ulige numre), Sankt Annæ Vester, Nyboders Rode, Nr. 504, F 6, , 489, FT-1880
Name: Age: Marital status: Occupation in household: Occupation: Birth place:
Rasmus Hansen 29  Gift  grønthandler Nakskov
Marie Andersen 26  Gift hustru  Ørbæk

Website http://www.landsarkivetkbh.dk/hovedst/txt/print/lister.htm  lists the parishes for Store Kongesgade as Garnisons and Skt Paul.

The page below is Skt Paul 1883-1891 opslag 182.  The column titles have been revised, so I'm not sure how to interpret the data listed and would appreciate a translation.
