Lise:

There are not any records available online, but there are microfilms available at the LDS Family History libraries and at the archives in south Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein.

The former Duchy of Slesvig (Danish for Schleswig) is now split between the countries of Denmark and Germany.  The Danish online archives are not allowed to display the images of records for anything that is not now part of Denmark.  Flensburg is now in Germany.  The Danish archives have a partial online index of the census in 1860, but it is very incomplete and does not cover Flensburg.

The birth of Anna in 1852 (and thus a indication of her parents) can probably be found in one of the Flensburg church books on the microfilms at the archives mentioned above.

Hi David.

Thank you for your answer.

Yesterday evening, I also found out, that many from the families BAHR + LANDT/ (Mawson) families, went to Utah, Salt Lake, USA under struckleling circumstances.

Our BAHR and ANNA LANDT is mentioned in Flensburg database by Helmut Martensen as i wrote yesterday, and dokuments about this, still must be reachabel in Kiel, Leipzig, Heide, (back to 1500 year - there mentions "up de Heide") (Platdeutsch/Netherland language) Heide in Schleswig in Germany and other places - Oldenburg ? Neumünster ?

Some 15 children and 45 grandchildren from our Bahr familie members went to Wisconsin, Millwakee, USA about 100-110 years ago (acording to my ancestry-infos and our BAHR family book)

A new one of that kind, was made in USA about 2 years ago - by 2 ladies - (dont remember their name right now).

in Germany the book:
DIE FAMILIEGESCHICHTE DER BAHREN IN SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN,
(in Gotich) about 95 sides, by H. W. HAUSCHILD printbureau, in 1924, Bremen, with help from many professors (Histori) and others, - Bartels, in Rigsarkivet i København = Poul Bredo GrandJean, in Flensburg =

STUDIENRATH ANNA LANDT from Flensburg (fam. to MAWSON family(mentioned in my questions abowe) - look my old questions here at Dis Forum, and Slægt og Data, throug the years about this.

This Arthur seems to have a mother Annie, not Eleanor:

Annie P. Rowntree 24 born in Edinborough, Scotland

Since James P. Rowntree is Rev. Rowntree in 1881 (Vicar of Werneth), then it seems as if it is the same Arthur.

I so not know, sorry.

> "who are - grandparents ROBERT and CORNELIA SMITH FITZGERALD ?(Grantparents to whom) ?"

I do not remember that we talked about this couple. I don't know who you mean, sorry. Arthur Fitzgerald Rountree has the name "Fitzgerald" in the middle. Are you saying you want the forum to find out who are his grandparents? Above, I have posted all the information that goes with the photo. This is the only mention of Arthur Fitzgerald Rountree that I can see on the website link that you cannot open.

Yes, it is a very interesting family!

Richard Stobbs

Hello, Lise

My name is Amanda.  My brother, Richard, has passed on your details to me, but I'm afraid I'm struggling with the Danish website – I hope this reaches you!!

You seem to have been told a lot about the Mawson family in Durham already.  Is it possible for me to see your family tree for the Mawsons, so that I can try to fill in any gaps you may still have?  Also, I can send you photographs.  If you are interested in the people and places from the marriage of Joseph Mawson and Anna Amalie Margarethe ("Amalie" or "Male") Landt up to the time of the First World War, then I made my grandfather's memoirs and photographs into a book which was published last year: Durham Memories by J. Landt Mawson and Amanda Stobbs, published by Amberley, ISBN 978-14456-0411-4.  It is available to buy on-line from Amazon.co.uk.  (It includes a photo of Hans Lemmel – cousin to Flora, Landt, Dottie, Anna and Frieda Mawson.)

And the Landt family.  What exactly is your connection?  We are descended from Amalie Landt (1852 – 1935) [generation VI / –4], daughter of Johann Landt (1807 – 1871) [generation V / –5] and Anna Margarethe Krebs (1813 – 1884).

*  Anna Landt (1879 – 1973) [generation VII / –3] of Flensburg was the eldest daughter of Martin Julius Landt ("Julius") [generation VI / –4] and Margarethe Jacobsen (they were both descended from Nikolai Petersen Joost [generation III / –7], as are we).  Her siblings were another Johann Landt (1881 – 1914), Martha [Brodersen] (1885 – 1965), and Margarethe ("Grethe") [Hayen] (1888 – 1983).  Anna did a lot of work with my great-grandmother (her aunt) Amalie in England, to document and record old stories of the family.  She wrote a number of books and articles.  She made English translations of some of them, and sent them to her cousins here in England;  I have copies of some.

*  The children [generation VI / –4] of Johann Landt and Anna Margarethe Krebs were:
Marie Christine "Christine" [Bahr] 1835 – 1918 (Hamburg)  (7 children; 2 have descendants)
Johanne [Holtz] 1836 – 1899 (Flensburg)  (6 children; 2 have descendants)
Bendix Petersen Landt 1838 – 1842 (Flensburg)  (died aged 4)
Johann "John" Landt 1840 – 1928 (Australia)  (15 children; 13 have descendants)
Henry Christian "Christian" Landt 1842 – 1875 (USA)  (1 daughter; no descendants)
Bendix Petersen "Bendix" Landt 1845 – ?  (USA)  (2 daughters; 1 has descendants)
Martin Julius "Julius" Landt 1847 – 1913 (Flensburg) 4 children; 2 have descendants)
Marie [Hohwy] 1849 – 1944 (Lubeck)  (6 children; 4 have descendants)
Anna Amalie Margarethe "Male" [Mawson] 1852 – 1935 (England)  (5 children; 2 have descendants)
Henriette Louise "Louise" [Lemmel] 1856 – 1940 (Wiesbaden)  (5 children; 1 has descendants)

*  You mention Landt relatives in the United States.  Do you know how they connect to our family?  As you can see from the above list, "our" Landt name died out in the United States, as the two boys who went there had only daughters (2 of whom were called Anna!)  Apparently "Landt" is a common surname, simply meaning "land" – and I have not yet found any connection between our Flensburg family and the Landt name in the United States.

*  Johann Landt [generation VI / –4] who went to Australia had 15 children.  One died in infancy, and one was killed in the First World War, but all the others went on to have children.  However, the Landt name has almost died out there, too.  Johann "John" Landt (1840 – 1928) married Louise Turner (1857 – 1935).  Their children (generation VII / –3) were:

1  John Landt 1871 – 1939
2  Annie [Barratt] 1872 –
3  Emma Louise "Emma" [Christian] 1873 –
4  Elizabeth "Tilly"  [Bellinger] 1875 –
5  Amalie Marie "Milly" [McPherson] 1877 –
6  Joseph Thomas "Tom" Landt 1879 – 1917 (killed in action in France)
7  Jane "Jean" "Jinny" [Holdsworth] 1880 –
8  William Julius "Duck" Landt 1882 –
9  Lilly Susan "Lily" [Clyne] 1884 – 1981
10 Louisa Maud "Owie" [Cowgill] 1885 – 1959
11 Rosie May [McDonald] 1887 – 1987
12 George Albert "Mick" Landt 1888 –
13 Henry Christian Landt 1889 (October 13th) – 1889 (November 16th)
14 Christina Grace "Sue" [MacDonald] 1891 – 1979
15 Ernest Raymond "Peg" Landt 1898 –

(It was said to be Tom who gave the nicknames to the other children.)

I hope all this is of use to you.

The Latin generation numbers "VI" etc, coming forward, are the system used by Anna Landt (which I use for Landt ancestors so that other descendants can easily understand and add the information to their own trees); however, it is not possible to use minus numbers in that system, and I have traced many of my own branches much further back, so I use the Arabic "-4" / "+1" etc system, numbering both backwards and forwards from myself.

I am busy for the next few days, but will try to add more information next week.  I look forward to hearing from you, and to knowing exactly how you are related to us.  I see you have the name "Bahr" - are you a descendant of Christine Bahr (my great grandmother's eldest sister)?

Regards,
Amanda
