I found a record that shows that my great, great, great grandparents were married at St. Peder, Naestved, Praesto, Denmark on September 26th, 1865.

Alfred Ernest Hoffman 1843
Clara Catarine Schmidt Tychsen 1844

Batch#M223685
File#50688

I can't seem to find any other information on them other than that their children were born in Schleswig Holstein and Flensburg, Germany. (I think)  I also know the general time that they came to America.

I don't know if they were originally from Denmark or how they happened to be married in this church.

Was it a general practice to let just anyone be married in the church or did you have to be a member or have family connected to the church?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated as I've hit another brick wall.

Thank you,

Michelle

The marriage (attached, Næstved 1854-1867 Opslag 58)  shows Alfred was from Flensbørg, and Clara from Næstved, so they probably departed for his home.  Unfortunately, those records are not online.

Wow, thank you so much!

Can you tell what the word before Alfred is?  I can't make that out.  So, if Clara was from Naestved, would there be a way to find out more about her?  Maybe who her parents were or if she was born or christened there?

You are amazing.  I've been looking for information on them for 9 years.  Until last night, I had no clue.

I truly appreciate your help.

Oh gosh, I just realized that the right side of the page goes with the left.  I can't decipher that side of the page either.

Is it possible to tell me what it says?

Thanks again,

Michelle

I think it's kjøbmand.  I don't read Danish but an online translator says = Merchant, so maybe a travel :)ing salesman who met Clara there?

Thank you again.  I appreciate your help.  Maybe someone will come along and decipher the whole passage for me.

A merchant/traveling salesman would make sense with the other information that I do know about him.

Thank you,

Oh my gosh Brian, those name totally jive with the family history information that I already have.

I have looked and looked for all of these years.  We even had to leave the information out of a book that has been written.

I'm thrilled.  I think I'm actually going to cry!

I'm so grateful to you and Homer for ya'lls help!

No Maria Christina Bonnichsen was born in Neukirchen between 1810 and 1820.
However a Maria Christina Jannichsen was born there 15 January 1814 to Jacob Jannichsen and Maren Jenses. Maren Jannichsen in the census is probably her mother, and Bonnichsen must be a transscription error.

When Jacob Jannichsen and Maren Jenses married 20 July 1810 they were both widowed.

Hi Michelle
Are you still interested in information about Alfred Ernst Hoffmann?
Alfred Ernst grand father,(his father with the same name) Johan Ernst Hoffmann, born in 1767 in Sachsen, Germany is my 4x grand father.
In the Danish Library in Flensburg, Germany, I have been given many details about the family, because several of them were soldiers in the Danish army and lived in Flensburg to approximately 1864th.
Alfred Ernst Hoffmann was a merchant in Flensburg and had a great business there. The house still exists, the address is Holm 25, I have a photo, if you are interested?
One of Alfred Ernst brothers, Christian Adolph Hoffmann was a soldier in 1864 and has written a very interesting book about his experiences, it is unfortunately only in Danish, but it is available for free as a pdf. File, that I can send. Alfred is mentioned briefly in the book.

Sincerely Vagn Hoffmann

I don't know if you'll get this...I know your post is quite old now.  I'm a descendant of Alfred and Clara (great, great, great grandson). My sister recently undertook a huge project to scan old family pictures that my grandfather had.  I don't have much information about them, but it turns out we DO have a few pictures.  One of the couple labeled as having been taken in 1865, one of Alfred alone (looking younger than the 1865 photo).  There's also one labeled as Alfred's parents...with no names documented.

If this message finds you (or other descendants) feel free to reach out to me for copies.
