I am having difficulty determining the origin of my ancestor Kirstine Hansdatter Dahl. I have four records of her.

1. Her marriage to John Christensen Trøllund 18 April 1743 Ansager, Øster Horne, Ribe
     1709-1744, Opslag 83.
2. Her death 23 October 1803 Sønder Omme, Nørvang, Vejle 1691-1808, Opslag 151,
    # 93
3. The 1787 census.  Vejle, Nørvang, Sønder Omme, Sønder Omme Sogn, Julingsholm,
     8, FT-1787, C2102
4. The 1801 census. vejle, Nørvang, Sønder Omme, Julingsholm, , 3, FT-1801, b8160

There is also a confirmation record in Ansager for a Kirsten Hansdatter in 1739, Opslag 77 but no additional information given.  I have searched for her birth in Ansager with negative results. I am wondering if the name Dahl could offer a clue. It only shows up at her marriage. Can anyone offer an explanation as to  where the name Dahl might have come from?

Hi Marlon

I think you'll find the baptism in Ansager, Ribe 1709-1744, ops 45, 3rd from the bottom on the left page. I'll transcribe what I can:

Dom 1de Adventus blev Hans
Jensens liden datter af Schou?
døbt og caldet Kirsten
Johanna Geils Datter bar barnet
fadderen Christen Pedersen
Søren Poulsen og Jens Jensen ?
af Schoulund (perhaps this is Skovlund?)

The record is clearer on FS, same church book, image 89

Doesn't answer your question about where Dahl comes from, but I hope it helps a little.

Good luck,

Pam

Little changed, but a more literal transcription:

Dom: i ma [prima] Adventis blef Hans
Jensens liden Daater, af Schouf
døbt og kaldet Kirsten.
Johanna Geils Daater bar Barnet
Barnet Fadrene Christen Pedersen
Søren Poulsen og Jens Jensens Hustrue
Af Schoulund.

I now see my problem. I only went so far as to check the transcribed records at:http://www.horsboel.dk/kirkebog/kirke.html The transcription shows the father to be Jens Jensen but even I clearly read Hans Jensen in the original record. Thanks so much to all three for clearing this up. I guess now Dahl is not so important.
