Is there any way to find out where my great-grand-uncle, Jørgen Jensen went to or what became of him. According to data from Esbjerg, he left for 'overseas' in February 1913. He had been living at 17 Grønnegade, Esbjerg before he left.
Any help or ideas about where or how to search for him are most welcome.

Hej George

It would be a great help if you would include date and place of birth along with the names. Just everything you know.

You could try to find and follow him in the military conscription rolls.

At the age of 18 Jørgen Jensen would be in entered in the roll of the conscription district (lægd) where he lived. From there you can follow him untill he is 38.

He was born on 7 May 1892 in Rødding, his parents were Jens Christian Jensen and Mette Marie Jacobsen.

There are 4 Rødding placenames in Denmark. Three of them also names of a parish:

Placename   Parish   District   Old county   Municipality (2007)   Remarks
Rødding   Rødding   Frøs   Haderslev      Sogn Bebyggelse. Ejerlav eller dele heraf.
Rødding   Rødding   Nørlyng   Viborg      Sogn Bebyggelse. Ejerlav eller dele heraf.
Rødding   Rødding   Rødding   Viborg      Sogn Bebyggelse. Ejerlav eller dele heraf.
Rødding   Vildbjerg   Hammerum   Ringkøbing      By eller ejerlav

Which one ?

Then you are out of luck regarding the Danish conscription rolls as Haderslev was under Prussian rule after the war in 1864 until 1920. You can see the entry for his birth in the Prussion civil registration ledger for Rødding here http://www.sa.dk/ao/billedviser?bsid=36787#36787,5137014

He and his family had moved to Esbjerg by 1897 where his younger brother Frederik Zacharias Jensen was born on 22 March 1897. The family is in Esbjerg right through to 1925, which is the latest I have found them thus far in Church books. So, would he, in this case, be eligible for the conscription?

He is in the accession roll for Esbjerg the year he turned 18, in 1910. No H 255 in lægd no 33a
http://www.sa.dk/ao/billedviser?epid=16480943#19859,1629458
It mentions a sailors discharge book 26/9 1910 and that he is not released from his Prussian citizenship and therefore crossed over in the roll.

Thank you for that, it is very interesting. I wonder if older siblings, who had been born in Torstrup, Ribe, would have been considered Prussian as well or just the children who had been born in Haderslev in the few years the family lived there?

Also, How can I search the conscription rolls for his younger brother, Frederik Zacharias Jensen, born Esbjerg 22/03/1897?

The above link opens the 1910 Tilgangsrulle (accession roll) at image 135. In the left margin you have access to all the rolls in the 4th conscription district from 1859-1931. Close the 1910 Tilgangsrulle and scroll down and open the 1915 Tilgangsrulle (1915, the year his brother turned 18). (1915; N; Tilgangsrulle; ; 1 - 1915; N; Tilgangsrulle; ; 187). Esbjerg (lægd 33a) starts at image 115.

Thank you.

Now we have found he was not conscripted, and had been a sailor, I wonder if we can find a way forward in tracing Jørgen...
