I have one Inger Marie Jensdatter born in Østerild on 7 Mar 1797. I have tracked her since birth in every Thisted Census since 1834 with the exception of 1801 until her death on 27 Aug 1874.

She had an affair in 1834 which produced a son--Jens Pedersen.

Starting with the 1845 Thisted Census http://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid5974710 he is with her; 1850  http://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid7860094; 1860 http://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid14374223 and in all she has been classified as "Single".

Then in the 1870 Census I find an entry http://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid14843055 which gives her name as Inger Marie Jensen Frost - Widow and Jens Pedersen her son as Jens Pedersen Frost.

1) The 1st question that I have is: Is this my Inger and Jens, mother and son in the 1870 Census? The names are the same except for the surname "Frost" and the Born Year is off by one year but that can be explained by the "timing of the Census" and/or based on "living in the year of"
2) If this is the Mother and Son that I have been tracking, where did the surname "Frost" come from?
3) Did she perhaps marry sometime between 1860 and 1870 or did they added the "Frost" to their name? Is it a place? He is a 'murer' so it is not his occupation.
4) if this is the wrong Mother ans son, then the death source that I have located is also wrong because it refers to her as "Frost". Correct?

Any insight into this would be appreciated---Thank you

Jens Pedersen 45 aar Gift Murer  Østerild
Ane Pedersen 45 aar Gift Skrædder  Thingstrup Th. Landsg
Ingvart Jensen Frost 10 aar Ugift deres Barn  Østerild
Peder Jensen Frost 8 aar Ugift deres Barn  Østerild

The son got married on 29 May 1868 (AO Østerild 1861-1890, image 141). Born 15 Sep. 1834. In the marriage entry he is only named Jens Pedersen.

The son Ingvart was born 17 April 1869 (image 20). Father is named Jens Pedersen (Frost). Could it be the son has added the name Frost?

Sometimes the word widow is being used for divorcees as well. I have also seen it in context unmarried women with illegitmate children. Maybe it sounded better to be a widow.

I think you have the mother here:

The son is also called Jens Pedersen Frost in census 1855, 1870, 1880, 1890.

Inger Marie's father is also called Frost at her baptism - 12 mar 1797

Thank you all for your input.

It appears the Frost name may have skipped a generation. :) :)
