Hej,
I have just received a copy of photograph of my father-in-law, Søren Peter Rix with his army unit taken ca. 1900 ± 2or 3 years.  He is the person near the center of the photo wearing a white hat.
Family tradition says he was an officer in the Danish Army (possibly the Cavalry).   Looking at the three chevrons on his sleeves makes me think he may not have been a commissioned officer but an NCO (non commissioned officer, i.e. sergeant).
Is anyone familiar with the late 19th century/early 20th century Danish military insignia and uniforms that can tell me what his rank was and perhaps the type of unit (was he in the cavalry?).   I notice that all the men have a "20" on their hats and uniforms except for Søren who has a"28" on his hat.
   One photograph attached.
   MangaTak,
        Don

Hej Don,

First:
According to Military uniforms in Europe 1900-2000 vol.1 at

Danish uniform caps at
http://kasket.dk/hovedsider/hearen.htm
Cap M1880 from the infantery, the number is the battalion number
Cap M1902 from the infantery (privates)

The 20. battalion (of the 8.Regiment) seems to have been i the Infantery Barracks in Aarhus 1880-1913.

Secondly:
I found your request about 'lægdsruller':
I am searching for information about my wife's grandfather, Søren Peter Rix, who was born in
Flensted, Låsby, Skanderborg on 15 September 1880.   He immigrated to the USA in October 1904.

First time at http://www.sa.dk/ao/billedviser?epid=16480943#19853,1624719

20 Batl 14/4 03 (to) 12/10 03
(So he seems only to have been in the army at 20. Batl. for ½ year, so I don't think that
he can be the sergeant with no 28, but one of the privates with no 20 at the cap)

Vedtegninger:

62 1/4 inches  Træskomager  EK2 921

**this is probably a note about his disappearance (to US) and that should be punished acc. to this §48,
if he showed up again.

Ole

Mange Tak, Ole,
That's very useful information.   I will compare some pictures of Søren Rix when he was older with the privates in the photo.
   Hilsen,
      Don
