This is the page:

The entry I need help with is the first one - Johan Pedersen - Peder 43 Æ  366/136  (not sure about the Æ - or is it an x, although the key says that year should be a Y!   ??)
There seems to be important information here for me.

The  link is to R0skilde 1847 Hovedrulle opslag 365

I'll really appreciate help in working out what happened to this guy, my GGG grandfather.  I know about him up to his marriage in 1844, but it seems he never stayed with his wife and child and he was later divorced.  He was born in Tolstrup, Særløse. 5 January, 1817.

Thanks,
Peter Jones

Hi,

a partly answer would be:

1841 21/4 (=1841 21 april) sold (=soldat/soldier) 2liv regt (=2. Liv Regiment)
1842 1/7 (=1842 1 july) 3 liv Inf Bat (=3 Liv regiment Bataillion)

Efter Ljt. O?...for galskab
og derefter hjemsendt og indlagt
paa Hospitalet Bidstrup
(= in short he maybe went mad and was hospitalized at the hospital Bidstrup/Bistrup - also known as Sankt Hans Hospital)

hope someone can make it complete...

Ole Westermann

Peter,

I read/translate:

Father: Johan Pedersen
Old.nr. 336 New nr. 136  Peder, born in Tolstrup, age 31, height 64 1/4 inches, residence Vibygaard
Marginal notes (vedtegninger):
21/4 1841 soldier at 2. Life Guard Regiment
from 18/12 (18)39
1/4 1842 (at) 3. Life Guard Inf. Bat.
1844  N? R (meaning uncertain)

To the left:
Efter Cpt. Opgiven-
de ald(eles) cass(eret) for Galskab
og derefter indsendt og ind-
lagt paa Hospitalet Bidstrup
undersøges vel  Sess. 1850

According to the captain's statement
completely dismissed for madness
and then sent to and hospitalized
at the (mental) hospital Bidstrup (near Roskilde)
to be well examined.

More to the left under his name:
Uts (uegnet til soldat)(unsuitable as soldier)  Fripas (at the ) Sess 1851 ('totally dismissed')

WOW!  I have a mad  ancestor.  :o Now I have an excuse!

Thanks so much Pia and Ole for your help!   :)

It confirms what Hanne thought might be the case.  He is on the 1850 Census for Skt Hospital in Bidstrup.  I know he was married in 1844 to my GGG grandmother already pregnant with my GG grandmother, however the couple were divorced before 1850.  So the madness probably contributed to the divorce.

Now I need to track down what happened to him.  He, or someone with the same name and about the same age, and divorced is at the same hospital on the 1880 Census.
As well there is a record of someone with the same name and matching age who died on 11 December 1891 at Sct Hans Hospital, Roskilde.  age 73. (Opslag 87, page 81, number 39 (top of page)   Sct Hans Hospital, Roskilde 1875-1892)

I'll try and check the other censuses in between 1850 and 1880.

Thanks again.

Regards,
Peter Jones
