Two Poul Augustinusen born one 1794 and 1795 which is my 3rd great grandfather?

I have a problem that I cannot solve. I am hoping that someone might be able to give me some help or advice. My 2nd great grandfather was Jens Christian Poulsen – born 05 Nov 1825 Vejle, Holmans, Skærup. His father and Mother were, Poul Augustinusen and Karen Jensdatter Lomholt. They were married in Skærup - 22 June 1822. Both age 26. I found the birth record of Karen and I am trying to find the birth record of Poul my 3rd great grandfather. All of the censuses for Skærup, 1834 through 1860, have his birth year as 1795. His death, 1 July 1871, in Skærup list his age as 75 ½ and his birth in Skærup. When I looked for the birth record I found two Povel Augustinusens born at about the same time.

One Povel on 16 March 1794 (Parents Augustinus Povelsen and Maren Ebbesdatter of Skærup)

I am inclined to believe that the Nov 1795 Povel is my 3rd great grandfather because his birth is in 1795 but the other Povel birth March 1794  is so close that it could also be him. I have looked at the Godparents but I cannot find any clue as to which is the correct Povel. Even though I have no real proof other than the tenuous one of the age of birth calculated from the census can I assume that the Nov 1795 Povel is my 3rd great grandfather? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bits, but perhaps not answers.

In the 1787 and 1801 censuses, the age was recorded as year entered into rather than years fully attained.

One Augustinus Povelsen was buried in June 1796, aged 35 (image 155), while the other lived at least through 1801 when he lost his wife Marlene Thomasdatter (image 202).

The Maren/Marlene difference should show up if Poul Augustinsen names one of his children after his mother.

Hi Paul,

Since Poul Augustinussen and Karen Jensdatter have a daughter called Magdalene/Malene,
I would think he is the son of Maleene Thomasdatter, i.e. born 1795.
