I have found a brick-wall with my Germany ancestors. My Y-DNA of I-M253 (old school I1) indicates that deep ancestors are from Denmark. The family name association of J1 Y-DNA seems to be Russian Singer family and the R1 Y-DNA Singer name is Mediterranean in origin.
My Y-DNA is registered on https://www.familytreedna.com and the current project is https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Normans-CE.
Does DK use Family Tree DNA for recording test results? Is there a location where I can research or submit Y-DNA in DK?

Hi Mike,

First of all, welcome to the forum.

DNA testing is not as prevalent in Denmark as in the British Isles and the US, so it is harder to find matches.

There is a Denmark project, a Danish Demes project, a Viking project and a Scandinavian project at familytreeDNA, all of which have Danish members.

On the other hand, you will not find many Danes in the surname project, as surnames were patronyms for most Danes until 150 years ago. (Jensen = son of Jens etc.).

Now, looking at your Y-DNA, you say you are I-M253. From what I can find, it may, as you say, have come from the Danish area, but it is 4-5000 years old. Since then descendants have migrated substantially.

There are I-M253 in Denmark, as well as many other places, so if you need to use Y-DNA to break down a brick wall, I suggest to test SNPs further down the tree. The I1 project administrator at familytreeDNA are probably the best to guide you on further testing.

Kind Regards,
Peter Paluszewski

Thank you so much for the answer. I will give the Viking project and a Scandinavian project at familytreeDNA a look ans see if I can come up with something.
